I'm neither American nor a surgeon but...

I imagine it would be considered an emergency, not the type of surgery that you can just schedule for whenever, but I do agree that it was all a little too convenient. How was that particular surgeon everyone recommended even available so last minute?

If you get your find cut off, you wouldn't need to make an appointment to get it reattached, nor would you even be bothered with them asking you questions about insurance until after the surgery was completed. It would be considered an emergency so it would be easy to get the work done and then sneak out without them ever really knowing who you really were.
