Somewhere in there was the promise of an intriguing movie...

Initially, my wife and I thought this was terrible. It was. And it never gets better.

The most laughable scene is there the mom explains to the Zac Efron-clone/pot dealing kid how her daughter is possessed by the spirit of Nic Cage's dead wife... and he just totally goes with it instantly instead of giving her a look of 'are u batshit crazy?'

That said, at times the film maker seemed to going for a David Lynch/Twin Peaks vibe with red-necks, the small town setting, possession, strange visions where reality and the dream world overlap and Nic Cage in 'weird' mode. Even the soundtrack at times is very reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti.

In more competent hands and with a lot better script this might have been a good movie instead of the dreck it is.

I liked it. Cage is enjoyable and the film is fun.
