This isn't even a Joker movie...

He's fundamentally nothing like the character in the comics or even the previous movie iterations of the character. They pretty much just slapped the Joker name on an art-house movie to sell tickets. Well, it definitely worked.

TAXI DRIVER WITH A CLOWN.

^ haaha.
man's got a point

Did you even watch the movie? You had to have some way to tell the origin story of Joker and this was well done and explains why he is the way he is later on in the DCEU.

Did you? The Joker doesn't become the way he is because of social/economic problems. They turned the Joker into a creepy loser with a myriad of mental health issues (besides being crazy). Definitely not the Joker I recognize.

reply

Joker has multiple origins though.

I mean, going by The Killing Joke, which is the most influential and well-known origin story he ever got, he kinda does.

reply

HIS MOST WELL KNOWN ORIGIN CAME 48 YEARS AFTER HIS BIRTH...DURING THE 80S...THE ENTIRE THING BECOMES PROBLEMATIC WHEN TRANSLATING IT FOR ANY MEDIUM AS FANS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE AN WHAT THEY EXPECT FROM IT.

reply

So why didn’t they just adapt The Killing Joke then? Would have been way better (or not).

reply

I agree completely. Phoenix’s performance was great and all, but The Joker is supposed to be a genius criminal mastermind, not a creepy weirdo who acts like a child.

reply

True and Phoenixs joker did not show any splashes of genius. He honestly strikes me as the type of criminal that would get caught stealing a bag of m&ms

reply

Ledger joker neither was the character

reply

I agree with that too, but Phoenix to a greater extent.

reply

The only true Joker is Cesar Romero.

reply

Bingo , this guy gets it , agreed.

reply

Much though I loved 1960s Batman, I was being tongue in cheek.

reply

Who cares about comics?

reply

I thought it was a Joker movie, but not a Batman movie. It just had the Wayne characters become involved. Thomas Wayne was portrayed as a rich a-hole caricature who caused a man having psychological issues and trying to find the truth about his parents go off the deep end. This was due to the actions of the rich and those associated with the rich. It doesn't exactly make sense, but the social and wealth chasm is enough to send the rich into a stir when confronted by him. Arthur Fleck causes intentional and unintentional grief for those close to him as he tried to find out his roots and learn from it.

reply

Yeah, this Joker is basically an ordinary psychopath in clown make-up.
