Would you watch this movie twice?

I was reading an article today about how people in real life are gathering at that staircase to take videos of them doing that little dance number he did...(the crowd has become annoying, as people are having to go around the long way to avoid it, apparently)

And I just kept thinking that that was the only part of the movie that really stood out as being "good". That was the moment he kind of shed his inhibitions, he'd found himself...you weren't sure what was going to happen next, but there was promise there...and it was a much needed change of character from the wholly anti-charismatic guy we'd been following around for the hour or so prior.

And that prior hour was almost painful to watch at times, uncomfortable, the bleakness, awkwardness, that giggling and all...and then finally the payoff!! Where...eh he really didn't change that much, really. Certainly not to a level that even slightly resembled the Joker we know as Batman's arch nemesis.

That dance scene was the pinnacle though, and aside from that, I couldn't imagine watching this movie a second time.

Not for a while, but I would. I consider it to be a mood movie more than a narrative one.

reply

Yep a mood movie for certain, well it's the way I saw it as well, even after watching in the Cinema I told some friends that I believe it would depend on your mood at the time of watching what you get out of it. For example, you have a really bad day at work which maybe starts by the train being delayed getting there and then it just turns into one of those days, you are likely going to come out of the film seeing it different to someone who's day ran smoothly.

Having said that yeah I bought the Blu-Ray and intend on viewing again at some point.

reply

Out of curiosity I asked posters on this board if anyone would be buying media for Joker.

For all of the awards and accolades and based on the existing stellar boxoffice you would think that Joker would have stellar sales and interest in owning the film for those wanting to see it multiple times. Anecdotally that doesn't appear to be the case.

reply

There it is! That's what I'm getting at...apparently what you were too. I mean, there was a lot of hype surrounding this movie...a LOT. I was ready to love it...and then wanted to...and then as time passed, realize that hell no I wouldn't watch that movie again lol

But people are still pretty amped up about how great it was...and its those people I guess I'm wondering if they've honestly considered how likely they'd be to watch it again and consider it from that angle, realize that they're wrong =D

Of course, there's lots of movies you wouldn't want to see a second time, just being that dark, twisted or whatever (looking at you, Requiem for a Dream) but this doesn't quite qualify as being in that category IMO.

reply

EXACTLY...I WENT IN STOKED,HALF WAY THROUGH I WAS PRAYING FOR A KILLER SECOND HALF AND THEN IT ENDED...4 HOURS LATER..A ONE TIMER FOR SURE...GOOD ACTING,A FEW COOL MOMENTS AND THATS ABOUT IT..ON A SIDE NOTE I OWN REQUIEM ON BLU RAY,IVE WATCHED IT AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN TIMES...KICKS JOKER'S ASS WITH ONE ARM GETTING SHOT UP BEHIND IT'S BACK.

reply

" I OWN REQUIEM ON BLU RAY,IVE WATCHED IT AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN TIMES..."

Why would someone torture himself like that?? Oo

reply

I thought the whole movie fantastic. I saw it when it first came out at the theater and then I bought the Blu-ray and watched it again the other day.

reply

Nope. I thought it was okay, and Joaquin Phoenix is great in it, but it's very depressing. Definitely just a one time watch for me.

reply

Agree. No interest in seeing it again.

reply

Of course.

reply

I won't at a theater with ticket, popcorn, and drink $25 . I might get the dvd when it is on sell. But maybe not I bought Suicide Squad on sell at $10 and have only watched it twice.I might more sometime in my life to get my monies worth out of it.

reply

You don't have to get popcorn and a drink, you know?

reply

For a 2 hour movie I do.

reply

Just buy your snacks somewhere else, much cheaper.

reply

My pants fit to tight to put snacks in. I can barely fit my dingaling in them.

reply

You need new pants. That's no way to live.

reply

Some stories need only be told once.

reply

Are you kidding? I SAW IT THREE TIMES IN THE CINEMA ALONE! Definite Google Play purchase as well!

reply

Yeah you would like an unoriginal film like this. This is a wanna be Scorsese film. This is a ripoff of Taxi Driver, and the King of Comedy.

reply

I saw Taxi Driver, didn't like it much, after all the hype. And I doubt the King of Comedy would be any better.

reply

It is better received than Joker is. Check the critical reception and weep. You do not like anything that makes you think I know do not worry. King of COmedy and Taxi Driver are vastly superior films. Scorsese>>>Phillips.

reply

The critics are FLAT wrong on this, don't worry.

reply

I should be more stock in you than critics? You pick Phillips over Scorsese? Yeah credibility shot. What did Joker do that made it unique? I will wait.

reply

Oh, f off.

reply

No defense of the film. As expected for someone who has trash taste in films. Seriously go get some sense slapped into you. You hold no credibility for me. All you do is open your mouth and spout stuff other people have said.

reply

Leave me alone, then.

reply

Nah I like making you look foolish. I doubt King of Comedy would be any better? Yeah ignorant folks like you make up your mind before even seeing a film. Much like how you did Star Wars. King Of Comedy blows this out of the water. Get some sense knocked into you, your ignorance is painful but hilarious.

reply

Jesus Christ, fanatic is an apt name.
"Check the criticism and weep"? "Go get some sense slapped into you?"

Here's something fanatic, not everyone has their identity wrapped up in their entertainment.
You think he has any personal stock invested in whether or not a film he likes is well received by others? Get a grip man, and maybe take a moment to look in the mirror before you call other people ignorant. No need to lash out at people who have a different opinion than you. Holy shit you're brutal.

Get outside man, take a walk, calm the hell down. Wow.

reply

I do it to him because he is a loud mouth clown who has no respect for other people's view. He makes up his mind before even seeing films. Also he is hypocritical. I have no issue discussing different views if people are not ignorant and closed minded. Oh and he cares what other people think just check his posts on the It chapter two board.
