Joker AKA i finally found a good stream (2019) - VERY LONG EXPERT REVIEW - FACT

MASSIVE SPOILERS

-the joker is an interesting film
-its about batmans nemesis the joker
-but in this film his name is arthur
-and he's a struggling clown
-who falls into fits of laughter outside of his control
-this sounds difficult to pull off on screen
-without coming over as cringy or try hard
-but wakeem pheonix gives such a brilliant performance
-you can see the sheer anguish and altogether
-discomfort arthur is in when he laughs
-its actually quite brilliant
-and far more than i expected from a superhero performance
-arthur is a man suffering from deep psychological pain
-and his mental illness combined with the character
-and the scenarios he finds himself thrust into
-could have led to a level of flippancy that
-would immediately destroy the film
-not just from the disrespect towards such a serious topic as severe mentil illness
-but also the character himself who
-only works if we feel a level of sympathy for him
-sympathy that readily turns into empathy
-as a result of the naked emotion that flows past both the
-literal and figurative mask arthur uses as a coping mechanism
-and as said before this hinges on the performance of wakeen phoenix
-however
-not all is rosy in this film
-for one
-in order for us to feel something initially for arthur
-and for arthur to slowly but surely psychologically unravel
-a variety of convenient and mildly unbelievable events have to occur in quick succession
-and this will be a fair point as suspension of disbelief is common in superhero films
-but as i said this film hinges on the psychological make-up of arthur
-so it needs to be believable
-anyway near the start
-arthur gets his clown sign stolen by some punks
-he then chases them and then they jump him and steal his stuff
-bit harsh but i suppose some people just hate clowns huh
-(plus it's america)
-and then arthurs counselor informs him that
-their funding is stopping and their session have to stop
-not unbelievable as these things happen
-but coming just after he gets jumped?
-then he's on the bus and innocently making a kid laugh
-so his fat mother gets mad at him
-so arthur starts his uncontrollable laughing again
-just to make things as negative as possible for our arthur
-then he's on a train and some tories start harnessing a woman by throwing chips at her
-and then they turn their attention to arthur
-and then they beat the fucking shit out of him
-so arthur snaps and shoots them all and decamps
-and then he meets a girl and things are looking up
-till you find out the girls not real and arthur's just pants on head retarded
-and the he tries stand up comedy
-but hes fucking shit at it
-and then his hero robert di nero plays footage of his failed stand up
-on his late night talk show
-just so he can laugh at him
-and then his mother (who he loves) lets slip that arthurs dad is actually thomas wayne
-and arthur's like wtf how many bad things are gonna conveniently happen to me over the course of this film
-and then arthur calms down and accepts wayne as his estranged dad
-so he goes to visit him in a toilet
-and wayne is a right prick to him and tells him that
-actually mate im not your dad
-i mean i did shag your momma back in the day
-but she was like crazy and shit so i left
-but before he goes he punches arthur in the face!
-and then wayne the wanker tells him that he is adopted
-and then he tells him that is mum is actually insane
-and arthurs like no way man this is a bit unrealistic
-so he goes to the nuthouse and is all like "is my momma crazy?"
-and some black guy is like "sheeeiittt man yer dat bitch is cray cray"
-and arthurs going crazy
-oh yeah and his prescriptions have been discontinued as well
-but that happened earlier
-so arthur goes to confront his momma
-and she's like all dead and shit
-cos the policemen who are investigating arthur for the murder to the tories
-called his mum up and shocked her into having a stroke
-crazy right?
-and then arthurs like wtf man this city is fucking shit i mean c'mon man give me a break
-and then he finds out the full history of his childhood
-and apparently his batshit crazy mum did actually adopt him
-and then let her boyfriend emotionally and physically abuse him
-when he was a little baby boy
-so thats why this scruffy prick is so fucking bananas
-oh yeah and his boss is a knob
-oh yeah and then his boss fires him
-just to rub it in y'know?
-so yeah pretty good film on balance
-a modern day less realistic taxi driver
-held together by a relentless performance by wakanda pheonix
-there's also a midget in it
