Why did Arthur's girlfriend freak out when he entered her apartment?

Was she joking when she started to act like she didn't know him?

Shes now a multi millionaire power lead in this country.

Agree with the others, it was all in his head..... only other scene that MIGHT be real was at the comedy club. He could have asked her to come see him. And after a while people did laugh at his jokes, that was not in his head, if you read the movie plot, it does say the audience warmed up to him after the crazy laughter outbursts..... so the scene with her at the club i believe could be real.

reply

No, the club scene isn't real either. After the elevator scene, he made the creepy suicide gesture which kinda weirded her out, and they did not meet again, until he entered her apartment. She was not at the club. People didn't warm up to him - he was terrible at the club and the whole thing was a fiasco. In this movie Joker doesn't have even a single, mildly funny joke.

reply

but how was he allowed on stage if he isn't remotely funny.......... they most have had auditions?

reply

He should have been reviewed prior to his stage i guess, but it seems they didn't do that. He was on the stage with his "jokebook", which mostly has random drawings and cut-out nudes, and as far as we've seen all the "jokes" he scribbled down are outright horrible. And besides, they didn't even review him before he went on live television.

reply

why was he actually on TV, did they want him to tell his bad jokes, i can't remember.

he was there to be made fun of, but what did they want him to do

reply

You mustve taken a nap during this film.

reply

Wow, you must be joking...

It clearly shows him recalling scenes from earlier on when he was with her, that are then shown to be just him without her in the flashback. He imagined that he was hooked up with her obviously. The only scene of them together other than the one you brought up that I believe was real, was the scene in the lift.

reply

She wasn't his girlfriend, their entire relationship was in his head.

reply

It was all in his head, man. He hallucinated that they had a relationship. So she was surprised when they had actual interaction.
