Why did Arthur's girlfriend freak out when he entered her apartment?

Was she joking when she started to act like she didn't know him?

reply

That wasn’t his girlfriend. It was all in his head. She was never with him.

reply

Huh, what do you mean it was all in his head? What about the other people - was his mother or that midget real? The midget seemed out of place, and the scene where he kills his co-worker but he lets the midget go is pretty strange...

reply

How the fuck is this confusing for you? Sophie, his "girlfriend" was only his girlfriend in his head. He imagined they were together. In reality she barely knew his name. Really, this is made abundantly clear in the movie.

reply

i think she only knew him with the joker makeup on, & was just surprised to see him without it & also all wet

reply

What the fuck are you talking about? The scene in the elevator he doesnt have makeup up. In no scene with her does he have makeup on. Pay attention for gods sake

reply

after the subway killing he comes to her apartment and kisses her with his makeup on,
that's the man she knows

reply

That scene wasn't real.....jesus christ.

reply

Jesus Christ wasn't real either?

reply

How can Jesus be real if our eyes aren't real?

reply

I'M SO CONFUSED!

reply

#MeToo

reply

The fuck outta here, Jayden!!!

reply

Jesus was real but the magic show was all an illusion.

reply

News flash: he wasnt real

reply

Dude, there’s actual record of a man named Jesus from Nazareth. That doesn’t mean he is son of God.

reply

Most every song made the top ten. Most post-humus though.

reply

I'm going to have to watch the movie again. I swear I don't remember seeing Jesus in it.

reply

.

reply

That was imagined. Theres a 2 minute montage in the movie that shows all the imagined scenes.

reply

how am i supposed to know which scenes were real or imagined?

reply

Ya, if you’re stupid, you’re not going to get it.

reply

Agree with the others, it was all in his head..... only other scene that MIGHT be real was at the comedy club. He could have asked her to come see him. And after a while people did laugh at his jokes, that was not in his head, if you read the movie plot, it does say the audience warmed up to him after the crazy laughter outbursts..... so the scene with her at the club i believe could be real.

what say the rest of you folks on moviechat?

reply

She never was with him in any of those imagined situations, FYI.
We don't even know if any of what was on screen was real or in his head.

reply

I feel a vintage IMDB troll post here....

reply

This whole thread is comedy gold haha!

reply

People still haven't learned to not feed them.

reply

I did feel troll but at least someone is posting.

Spoiler alert:

She wasn't his girlfriend. Arthur entered the apartment of a girl he didn't even know. The romance was all in his mind.

reply

which scenes were in his mind?

reply

Pretty much all of them.

reply

so he imagined being in her apartment on the couch & she asks who he is?

reply

Oh no. That was real. But that's it. Everything else was a delusion.

reply

All of them except the initial elevator scene.

reply

but he was in her living room wet and crying at one point

reply

That was the only other real scene too. Forgot to add that one.

reply

she seemed a little out of it in that scene tho

reply

Of course she did. That was not his girlfriend.

reply

maybe not going steady but they had been spending a good amount of time together by then

reply

No.

reply

he knew the daughter's name

reply

I checked it out, Sophie says Gigi's name on the elevator.

It all makes sense, because she is visibly creeped out by him when he imitated her cartoony suicide gesture, but in a weird, serial killer way. I don't think a single mother would ever let such a guy near herself or her daughter.

reply

you have to remember that joaquin phoenix is also a goodlooking man, especially with his hair slicked back

reply

This thread is a great read, absolutely hilarious!!!

But as others have said, she bearly knew him. Theres a short montage showing that Arthur was really alone in all their "scenes together".

reply

Are you that dumb? People like you are the reason they had to spoon feed us a whole flashback montage. Learn how to follow a movie.

reply

Lol this is a masterful troll thread.

reply

I hate it when people bash other for missing something. It can happen. But damn, I can't see how you missed that if you were watching the movie. It was extremely clear.

reply

You didn't see the part where they revealed her as a time traveling super villain? Her fiendish plan is to travel through time being "not nice" to hobos like him so as to create super villains out of them.
