best picture?

It took me 2 viewings and a week to think it through enough...

This is a brilliant picture, with Oscar-worthy performance by Phoenix, the cinematographer, score, sound effects, screenplay, maybe director and maybe maybe best picture.

It gets sadder, happier and better as art the more it grows on you.

Definitely could see it been up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Score, Best Actor, Best Cinematographer and Best Screenplay.

For me Phoenix is a lock in for Best Actor, if anyone comes close to his performance I be shocked.

reply

I'd wait for De Niro, Pacino and Pesci in The Irishman first. I only heard good things about the movie.

reply

50/50. It’s probably wiser to push it for a Best Actor nomination.

reply

This. That is all it has going for it really.

reply

I'm surprised that Wonder Woman didn't garner nods for best score or costume design.

reply

Phoenix has a shot at Best Actor. I don't see the rest happening.

reply

I can see Oscar noms for best actor and cinematography.

An Oscar win for best actor is a bit sketchy due to the climate, but I think a Golden Globe would be the shoo-in.

reply

It probably will get a best cinematography nomination but it shouldn't really. If made a pretty decent copy of the Mona Lisa, it may well be a pretty decent copy but I shouldn't really then be expecting to get nominated as Artist of the Year.

reply

If made a decent copy of Mona Lisa? What do you mean?

reply

Just that.

If I looked at the Mona Lisa - or any other picture for that matter - and thought it was a beautiful picture, and decided to get my paint set out and make as authentic a copy as I could. Well, just maybe I could make a fantastic copy that I would be happy with, but I wouldn't be expecting any big slaps on the back or universal acclaim for my efforts.

reply

Ah, so you mean Joaquin Phoenix's performance was a copy? Copy of whose?

reply

No. I was talking about the cinematography.

reply

Nah, something with a more diverse cast will get that Oscar
