Good news for WB & Joker, Bad news for the DC

The movie's quality aside, as much as having the largest October opening is a reason for fireworks, this is Nolan's Batman all over again. It was said this Joker won't be a part of the shared universe, which means no matter how you turn it someone will lose. If Joker flopped in its OW that would lower the bar for the next Joker's iteration (Jared Leto again I guess?). The same way people were sceptic about JP's Joker considering it followed HL's interpretation. It's safe to say the next time we see Joker it won't be again a standalone flick but a group event like Suicide Squad, so chances for another R rated movie are slim. So when we see a watered down PG-something version of Joker a few years down the road it probably wont be that well received. This Joker is a success, but looking at the big picture I think it's bad news for the DC fans.

It seems like a symptom of late stage capitalism is everyone obsessively analyzing the monetary gains of capitalists inspite of having no personal stake on these monetary gains. Art is reduced to products, it is only measured by its worth in these fictional numbers.

When it comes to movies, art and commerce have always shared a seat.
