Great Trailer does not Equal a Great Movie

Its a brilliant trailer (the Smile one), but then it's a great song which is truly one of the great melancholic tunes. Play it over some very dramatic scenes of extremes (sad man to crazy wild man) and you have an engrossing 2 minutes.

I have a feeling it will be remembered more for the trailer than the movie.

How many Great movies had Great Trailers ? Not many I wager

I think a lot of great movies had great trailers. On Looper's list of epic trailers, they've got Inception, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mad Max: Fury Road, Alien, The Social Network, Pulp Fiction, and Jurassic Park (among others) which I would say are pretty good/great movies.

The Shining is a great movie with a great trailer.

Logan is a great movie with a great trailer.

Movies and their trailers are, of course, separate things. But I've seen many great trailers for great films, many poor films attached to amazing trailers, and even some awful trailers for great films (The Princess Bride).

Actually, it's been my experience that the very best trailers generally come from the worst movies. Did you ever see the "Bohemian Raphsody" trailer for the stink-bomb "Suidide Squad"? The trailer was a hilarious little masterpiece of editing, and the complete film was horrible.

I think more work is put into trailers, when the studios know the film itself is bad.
