Can you say " low budget hotplay"?
This will be quite an interesting experiment. We already saw WB steering in this direction with Shazam's very responsible budget and 2017's mega-blockbuster 35 million-budgeted Stephen King's IT.
Joker is bound to do big numbers and with a small budget is bound to be VERY profitable.
Without the charisma of RDJ anchoring the MCU, it seems DC sees the writing on the wall and instinctively KNOW that budgets for CBM's need to adjust. Disney will continue to wildly overspend even without RDJ going forward and it looks like WB is just slyly smiling saying "go right ahead buddy...we're going in a smaller-budget direction but you keep going with your 200-300 million budgets".
