Upcoming Joker Film Accused of “Toxic Masculinity” by Progressive Critics

Social Justice Trolls reviewing a movie based on short teaser. Never see that here!

Multiple websites including The Daily Dot and The Independent are criticizing the film out of the gate.

In an Independent piece called “If Joker is just another celebration of a toxic egotistical male justifying his bad behavior, I’m not here for it”, the author states:

> “As a character, the Joker has acquired a bit of a fan following over the years. His popularity has been bolstered by the performances of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto – and soon Joaquin Phoenix, who plays the title role in Joker. And while I’m sure DC’s forthcoming film will find its audience, it’s hard not to notice that dedicating an entire standalone film to the Joker (and possibly a couple of sequels if it does well enough) contributes to romanticising one of the most toxic archetypes of pop culture.”

The author continues, bemoaning the romanticization of edgy, disenfranchised young men who exhibit “toxic” behaviors who find the Joker a relatable character.

> “But I worry – not to the point that it’s keeping me up at night, but still – that some toxic guy will watch this film and think: “See? There’s nothing wrong with me. There is beauty in my chaos. I am the chaos. I am the beauty. The ends justify the means.”

Well, the Joker is obviously a toxic character.

But he's toxic because he's insane.

That actually says a lot about how deranged are progressive critics (and academy in general). They have internalized the 'white males are violent aggressive psychos' credo to the point they don't see the Joker as an example of a toxic insane psychopath anymore... but as an example of a toxic male. What defines the toxicity of the character is not his insanity. It's being a white male!

Modern politics is like a new religion.

reply

Amen.

reply

Meh. People that use terms like "toxic masculinity" are people who's opinion/voice is irrelevant as they are clearly as thick as two short planks.

reply

Yes. That is one of those terms where I tune out upon hearing.

reply

Boycott

reply

Clearly, they are not a fan of the comic book character, so maybe it's not the movie for them.

But that's like if I said I don't like Sci-Fi movies for reasons x, y, and z, so no one else should.

Dumb.

reply

Kind of hypocritical to call one toxic and think you're the sane one, don't you think? Switch it around to these SJW/PC culture folk controlling thought/speech and replace 'guy' with them instead and see how well they fit in place.

reply

No one "criticized" anything. People gave their concerns about what direction the movie was going in. If the movie is going to turn the Joker into some cool anti-hero that angry, damaged young guys are meant to relate to, then yes, people should be concerned.

This has nothing to do with SJW/PC Culture. It has to with nihilism. Hollywood is full of nihilists who grew up reading Ayn Rand, and they've spent the past two decades trying to poison young people with their movies.

reply

"Hollywood is full of nihilists who grew up reading Ayn Rand"

Hilarious! What SJW site did you pick that up from?
Classic Sci Fi was libertarian, Hollywood today is Full LibTard.

reply

I'm putting you on ignore. As soon as people start dropping mindless buzzwords like "SJW" and "libtard," I just know that I'm talking to a moronic kid in his twenties (if that) who spends all his time on the internet getting his worldview shaped by assholes.

reply

SJWs are the ones put on ignore. I'm old enough to be your grandpa, little girl!

reply

So what do you suggest? That we start controlling what types of movies are made, and what kind of characters filmmakers are allowed to explore? That's the vibe I'm getting from your post here.

That's much more concerning to me than anything involved in a film about The Joker, a FICTIONAL character who is completely insane and dresses like clown, and battles a grown man dressed up like a bat.

reply

Yes, you're totally right. We should all become like China. Control media. Yup.

/sarcasm.

reply

angry, damaged young guys.....LOL

what damaged them? hateful hollywood libs, and females like you.

thankfully no one likes them anymore, and wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.
hollywood is suffering, watch their movies tank.... just take a look at the new terminator movie ! LOL

reply

In Holly wood they hate Ayn Rand who is an objectivist, not a nihilist.

Hollywood despises Ayn Rand politically and aesthetically. You couldn't come up with a premise and theme so against Rand's views than a film like Joker, where the protagonist is an anti-hero, a mediocrity determined by mental illness and environmental pressures, who inspires a violent mob of clown imitators.

You couldn't be more wrong.

reply

Zack Snyder wanted to do Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, which explains why he royally screwed up Superman.
And it's true, there are as many Ayn Rand fans in Hollywood as anywhere.
Most actors pretend to be liberal but the executives are the money guys.
Steve ButtMunchin actually was a producer on Wonder Woman which is annoying, but at least he's not producing the sequel.

that writer need to go buy some Gillette razor blades instead...... and starting cutting ! :-)

reply

Sigh. Every day I want to vote for Trump just a little bit more.

reply

So, vote for him. Nothing's stopping you. It didn't stop the millions of morons who voted for him in the last election over petty shit, either. So, feel free to vote for him. We're living in an Idiocracy now. You'd be in good company.

Besides, LOL, it's your future you're destroying. Not ours. Many of us have lived long enough to say we've had a good run. That's why we don't care when people like you say stuff like this and we let you do and say whatever you want, no matter how stupid or self-destructuve. Your future. Not ours.

The sad thing is that we're not supposed to be thinking that way. The older generations are supposed to be guiding your generation every step of the way, helping you carve a bright future for yourselves. But most of us have given up and are just sitting back and shaking our heads. When you insist on being this arrogant, stupid and smarmy, what is the point? So we are just letting you guys hang yourselves.
