Fashion and tech was nothing like in 2003

More like summer of 1998. No one was wearing choker necklaces in 2003 (that was well out). The style was very Euro/revealing influenced with asymmetrical tops, peasant blouses and ultra low rise jeans. Juicy suits were also huge (where were they in the film?). When jewellery was worn
it was usually a shell design or the bejewelled initials of the person's name.

The film makes the internet and cell phone culture seem like it doesn't exist. Flip phones were already being sold with video chat yet the movie presents nothing but simple analogue designs. MSN and Myspace were heavily used by teenagers in 2003 (okay Myspace dropped in the summer of that year) and play station 2, Xbox were also heavily used. The film makes it seem like teenagers back then just had ''T.V'' a very dated internet with no ''google'' even and analogue phones.

the movie takes place in a rural setting not suburban NYC Metro, Chicago or L.A.

Also, flip phones have been around well into today by many adults over 60 yrs old.

It's like any other "era film" when it takes place in rural settings the styles and culture still latch onto what's considered outdated in su/urban areas.

i got my first flip phone in 2009 or maybe 2008. either way times were changing so much back in those days. 2003 was way closer to 1998 than it was to 2008. technology really started taking off in in 2003 but i still feel like those days felt more like the 90s the present. i miss the old days. technology is badass but it really fucked up the world and made everything so much less social and fun. myspace was alright but facebook really killed the social part of social networks. mark zuckerburg is the biggest antisocial weirdo and he is in charge of the biggest social network in the world. thats why this world went to shit so much, everything was cooler back then youtube wasnt a censoretube it is today. google actually worked now it is just a blatant proganda engine. talk about one step forward and two steps back

You're 100% right. 1998 and 2003 was a world of difference, 2003 and 2018 not so much.

2G with SMS and data came out in 1991! Don't know when it became popular in the US. No fucking social networking!
Google was dominant search in 2003. Rural dial-up was available where high-speed was unavailable.
