Myagi was pretty much a lousy apartment caretaker and a coward

while Myagi taught only one martial art to Daniel, Myagi was pretty much a lousy matinence repair guy at a apartment building and a drunk reclusie who ran away a coward from a personal rivalry from Okinawa.

Maybe if Myagi had stayed put in Okinawa then maybe Sato wouldnt have been so hell bent on killing Myagi due to a rivalry fued over whether Myagi's father or sensei was trying to keep the peace between them

Was he paid more than he was worth though?

So Miyagi was a coward for not wanting to get in to a fight to the death with his best friend?
He was a drunk? we see him drunk once throughout the whole series of movies and that was on the anniversary of his wife and sons death.

Don't feed the trolls... or retards. think OP is just a retard.

I didn't watch the second or third Karate Kid films. So, context is missing for me.

From what I've seen, possibly. Johnny said it himself that Miyagi gave one of his friends brain damage. That's pretty messed up. Aren't we also rooting for Johnny from the POV of Cobra Kai? Maybe Miyagi was a jerk.

People did criticize Daniel's techniques that he learned from Miyagi in season 2, hahaha. "My karate lessons are free! Now, go paint my fence! It'll teach you amazing karate. Just watch and see!" Hahaha

reply

None of Johnnys friends got brain damage. They were all fine in Cobra Kai except Tommy who died of cancer.

reply

I thought I heard Johnny say that in season 1, when he was talking to Miguel about his history with Daniel.

reply

Johnny was exaggerating events in his re-telling to make Daniel seem more like a bully and him sound more like a victim. I took the "brain damage" comment as part of that exaggeration.

Yes. But rooting for Johnny doesn't necessarily mean rooting against Daniel. For me, it's wanting Johnny's redemption, his separation from Kreese, and ending his feud with Daniel.

I'm giving the poster a chance.

I like Daniel a lot. I like both of them a lot. It's awesome that Johnny and Daniel have joined forces, that'll be so interesting to see play out. We need to see this.

The end of season 3 makes me wonder though. Will Johnny ever return to Cobra Kai? Maybe after Kreese is gone from it? The show after all is called "Cobra Kai". Should it not be from Cobra Kai's POV then? Then, it is tipped to Johnny's favor.

I always took the series title to be like "The Skulls", "Children of the Corn", or "Spectre". It's named after the villainous organization. Johnny was wrapped up in it and thought he could change it. Now he sees the only real option is to get rid of it.

reply

Ah, true. Good way of explaining it. I like that. We'll see.

reply

You left out Medal of Honor winner. Obviously not a coward.

He was a poor maintenance guy though. Kept tricking kids into washing and waxing his cars and painting his fence without paying them.

Racist!

The trollish nature of the OP notwithstanding, Miyagi really was a lousy caretaker, though. The apartment complex was in a sorry state, and when asked to fix a faulty kitchen faucet - a really faulty faucet - he was busy trying to catch flies with his chopsticks, and simply said he would do it "after". After what? "After after!" Given the pristine state of his own back yard, it was clear he didn't take his job very seriously.

reply

I always thought the owner was skimping on the upkeep of the apartment block as is evidenced by the state of the pool. When Daniel visited Miyagi about the faucet, for all we know he was on a break. True Miyagi may have not taken his job very seriously, but when your boss isn't prepared to sink money in to it you can see why he would feel that way.
As you say, he kept his own back yard pristine.
