My one criticism for season 3 - *Spoilers*

They should've kept Hawk a villain.

I completely agree!

I dont mind it, it was clear that he wasnt fully on board with all the shit that they were pulling. I actually thought he would snap out of it before breaking demitris arm, but it was good little snap back to reality in the finale. My main problem is that Kreese actually tried to kill not only daniel but Johnny too. It just doesnt fit with the rest of the series and the movies. Then Kreese suggests the tournament and every one acts like nothing major just happened lol. To me, the whole allure of Kreese’s philosophy was that it deeply affected his students in life, but he seemed to be immune to a certain degree by staying out of trouble with the law, even though his life was also in the shitter, but he seemed to have no issues with getting in troulbe with the law.

reply

When did Kreese try to actually kill them? I recall the after-hours fight in the dojo but I don't remember Kreese literally trying to strike a death blow.

reply

He was about to kill Johnny with the sai before daniel cut in. Then was trying to kill daniel with a glass shard. Dude is definitely sick.

reply

Yeah it looked like he was going to strangle Johnny before Daniel stepped in, and then he told Daniel it was time to reunite with Mr Miyagi before trying to stab him with the broken glass. The only one that I could actually see Kreese wanting to actually kill is Mr Miyagi lol. Really wish they hadnt made Kreese go that far, espeically right in the open like that at his dojo, when he was harping on his students to fight smart.

reply

Could Kreese have claimed self defense if he killed Daniel? He already filled a restraining order against Mrs Larusso and then Daniel shows up at his dojo trying to kill him, not to mention Daniel's rep has suffered n the community following the school brawl. Johnny has a laundry list of criminal offense's, so he probably wouldn't be a credible witness. It is a long shot but I think if Kreese phoned Terry Silver and requested a lawyer using Silver's millions then it could work.

reply

Nah, I'm okay with it. Hawk has always been good-at-heart and he needed a redemption arc.

Now REAL villains have taken his place.

reply

I think they went as far as they could with Hawk unless they were willing to cross the line into making him a murderer. He had already become a thug. I also don't see Kreese lasting much longer for the same reason, unless they also want to make him some kind of Karate crime lord and Johnny and LaRusso become Batman and Robin.

Even this show can only go so far with the craziness.

reply

Multiple times hawk almost turned to the good side but last second something bad happened against him and he turned into a more meaner villain again.
Him turning was the right timing, plus it equals up the good guys against the bad - otherwise there was too much muscle on the bad side - especially since we know Barnes will be back plus Silver and maybe some more hired thugs.

reply

What do you mean? The good guys now have:

Johnny
Daniel
Hawk
Miguel
Dimitri
Sam
And most of the cobra Kai dojo.

Reese only has Tori and Robbie.

reply

There is still around 7 cobra kai even though Hawk defected with Kreese they didn't defect, plus there was 5 others jocks who came with Kyler even though the fat boy got his ass handed to him by Hawk, plus Robbie.

Johnny and Daniel would be going up against Kreese, Barnes and hopefully Silver.

Hawk, Miguel (still not full strength), Sam, Demetri (who nearly got his arm busted again), Chris, Mitch are the main 6 bigger boys/girls apart from that its all the little kids from Miyagi-do, maybe another 1 or 2 half decent size boys extras.

Vs

Tory, Robbie, Kyler and then there's no big named 7 characters on the cobra team plus the 5 jocks kreese brought in but they are all 16-18 yr olds that have the muscle - making around 12 older guys/girls + plus we don;t know if Barnes or Silver will bring any more kids with them.

reply

It could be possible that Chozen teams up with Johnny and Daniel. It makes sense if Kreese has both Silver and Barnes by his side.. Unless Barnes doesn't come back for whatever reason

reply

I could be wrong but i have a feeling Chozen won't be back, he's made his peace with Daniel and if he does make a guest appearance again then more likely be a goodbye meet.

Whether we get any of his students involved is another matter, that's a possibility.

Barnes will be back as he is still one of the younger cast members from the main KK movies and he's taken photos with Martin Kove and Ralph Macchio, so no doubt he will be back.

John and Daniel wont fight with kids or the tournament and Dimitri is weak. That leaves only:

Miguel
Hawk
Sam

reply

I agree Hawk turning was the right timing. In my case, it's because he and Demitri are secondary characters and I think their relationship would be too much in the foreground if their rivalry continued too long.

reply

Agree and then have Hawk redeem himself in season 4.

reply

If he broke demitri's arm again he would have gone too far to be redeemed and if he decided to walk away without doing it then he would have been seen as a pussy and kicked out and beaten up by cobra kai with no where to go but then no redeeming qualities to join the miyagi-do/engle claw alliance.

So it was best way they showed him hesitating every-time he was going to do a bad thing but then went into the villain mode last minute to do it anyway but turning just the right point that miyagi-do/engle claw was about to get demolished and he became the saviour and redeemed.

If they left him too long as the bad boy then he would become the real villain like Kreese - it would been harder to make him have any redeeming qualities then.

reply

YES EXACTLY MY THOUGHT. The combined alliance of characters is very very strong now. Also hawk made a great villain.

reply

Am I the only sane one here???? The dude legit broke that kid's arm and everyone, including Dimitri, just welcome him back with open arms???? Oh shit my bad dude, I really shouldn't have broken your arm. Things got a bit out of control there. Really??? Knock the kid's lunch tray over, ok... Smash his lego thing, cool... even trip him in the hallway, fine... but break the dude's arm?

reply

Yeah, that's why it doesn't make sense at all for Hawk to turn against Cobra Kai. Plus, that Hawk vs Dimitri dynamic worked really well.

reply

And because of the brutal beating he gave to one of his bullies. Very Cobra Kai.

reply

Yep, you can see the blood lust and rage in him, he's 100% onboard with what Kreese is teaching them. I could see a redemption arc down the line, but to do so in that short of time, just doesn't fit very well.

My hope is that maybe it's a trick, and he actually there to spy on Miyagi-Do.
