my predictions for season 3 (don't read if you haven't finished s2)

1) Johnny and Daniel will now unite against Kreese. Maybe not right away, it will take them some time to mature to that level, but I see this happening at some point in the season. Heh, in an ironic sort of way, Kreese will get his "war".

2) Robby will completely cross over to the dark side and will become Kreese's new champion. Along with Tory. (I don't know if those two will get together romantically because she just seems to be so much bigger than him, but I can certainly see why the writers might go for that. The characters are definitely a much better match than they ever were with Sam and Miguel, respectively. Within the story, this pairing makes sense.)

3) Robby and Tory will also both be expelled from the school.

4) Sam and Miguel will get back together, although I am not sure that he will be able to walk. Well, given that this is a teen show, I am guessing by the end of the season he will not only walk but will be a chamption fighter again.

5) Carmen will eventually forgive Johnny when she sees that he is a good man and a caring father figure to Miguel.

6) Ali... eh, who knows. Is Johnny ever going to find out now that she sent him a friend request or will he permanently go back to his Luddite ways? But everything on this show thus far has come home to roost, so I am guessing he will find out one way or another.

I can envision a scenario where Johnny and Carmen get back together and then suddenly Ali comes back and tells him he was the one for her all along, but I don't know, that would just be too corny and unrealistic.

Anyway, what do you guys think will happen?

reply

I kind of thought the same thing for most of your points, which is why I figured those things wouldn't have happened!

reply

Oh, they'll happen, at least some of the them. I'll make it a point to come back to this post after s3 comes out, lol. 😄

reply

I think though that if you want to crow about predictions, you need to really make a leap. How about : Johnny turns out to be the bastard child of Kreese...

reply

Oh, I don't want to crow - I am just wondering why I am enjoying the show so much when it's so predictable. 😊

My predictions based on rumors:

- Miguel will make a full recovery. If Ali returns, it's because she'll be his surgeon.

- Johnny will convince Miguel to ask for leniency for Robby. Robby will get no jailtime for his crime or have anything on his permanent record.

- Daniel will go to Okinawa to get perspective. He's going to learn a secret that shows Miyagi wasn't as perfect as Daniel thought and that Miyagi had struggles as well. Chozen will have reformed and will help Daniel discover this.

- Meanwhile, under Kreese, Cobra Kai will start to become a criminal enterprise, possibly involving the return or Terry Silver and/or Mike Barnes.

- Johnny will go through a crisis of faith, possibly revert to being a drunk, before having a "come to Jesus" moment and approaching Daniel for help dealing with Cobra Kai. This may be with Ali's help.

Things I don't want to see:

- Ali being a love interest. She's married now and I think it serves the story if she's an influence, but no longer romantically involved with any of the major players. I think she can better serve as a mediator who finally gets Johnny and Daniel to work together.

- Miyagi's legacy tarnished.

Things I have no real predictions for:

- What Sam will be up to.

reply

Chozen is Kylers father

reply

I think a lot of people think that, but that would be a coincidence of biblical proportions.

Agree. She is married, but I honestly don't see what would motivate her to leave her family to fly halfway across the country. Certainly she's not the only orthopedic surgeon in the country with the skill to help Miguel. Now, if she happened to be in town for, say, her father's funeral, that might be a way to get her involved in the story. Still, the writing has been on average quite good and I'm sure they will be able to write her in properly.

- Miyagi's legacy tarnished.

Also agree, but fortunately they've been very careful about not undoing the canon of the films, other than of course the brilliant story of Johnny's point of view.

reply

I'm guessing Ali would fly out and help Miguel specifically at Johnny's request.

reply

Yes, I'm sure she would, but again, unless she's some kind of leading edge pioneer in spinal cord injuries, what advantage will she have over the team of orthopedic surgeons already on staff, and would Miguel's mother allow Johnny (who she at this point hates) have any input regarding her son? If they write Ali that way, that will work, but they have to be careful not to be corny.

Another possibility is that this is all a red herring. We've all made the obvious connection between Ali being a doctor and Miguel being seriously injured, but maybe Ali's involvement in Season 3 has nothing at all to do with Miguel..

reply

She might only come out to consult. Or to help Johnny know that Miguel has a good team.

Ultimately, I think her main purpose will be to facilitate Johnny and Daniel starting to work together.

reply

And to give them both closure - they both have an open gestalt where she is concerned.

reply

I'd rather they don't go there. These two don't need to still be pining over some girl they dated in high school....

reply

But they both obviously still have feelings for her.

reply

Johnny might because his life went down the toilet after the whole Cobra Kai/Kreese/Daniel incident killed his upward swing in life. Daniel just has a normal curiosity as to what she's up to, but I doubt it's anything he'd risk his marriage over.

A love triangle type drama would be the lamest direction to take this series in. If they bring Elisabeth Shue back for that, it will be a huge waste and will probably ruin the show for me.

reply

Oh, I am definitely not anticipating a new love triangle!

I would have expected Daniel to be a lot more over her by now, though, considering he's been happily married for going on 20 years now, with two kids. Like seriously, how often do you even still think about people from high school at that age?..

That scene at the bar in season 1 certainly shed a lot of light on how they truly feel.

reply

I’m mostly happy with the way they handled Ali’s return.

reply

Ali being Miguel's surgeon is a great guess - there must have been a reason the writers made her an orthopedic surgeon in the first place.

reply

I hope Chozen shows up in some fashion. KK 2 was the best of the sequels, in my opinion. Even though the movie had little to do with Cobra Kai, I was hoping to see more of it referenced int he series. So far, we have Daniel briefly mentioning his trip to Okinawa and a little flashback to the ice-breaking scene and that's it.

reply

I would like to see Johnny and Carmen together. My hope for Ali is that if she shows up it's just a cameo or one or two episodes that somehow give a resolution that makes Johnny okay to move on from the past.

reply

I’m still holding out hope that they can:

Convince Chad McQueen to make an appearance (even though Dutch is serving 5-10 in Lompoc)

Consider getting Hilary Swank to make a cameo since Miyagi trained her as well

See about getting Sean Kanan to return as Mike Barnes since Thomas Ian Griffith has retired and won’t consider a one off return.

reply

Chad McQueen's not interested. Making too much money on his cars.

reply

Oh I know. Just wishful thinking.

reply

Kids dont always make full recovery in shows.....In Degrassi Drake never did get out of that wheelchair.....

reply

I predict Daniel will travel to Okinawa and meet up with Chozen

reply

Was this Chozen character in the first Karate Kid movie?

I don't remember anything, have to rewatch.

reply

Chozen was the villain in Karate Kid II. In the Netflix trailer for Cobra Kai, they have a sound clip of Daniel and Chozen at the very end (2:15).

reply

Ah, I see, so I never watched that actually. I only watched the first movie once like 10-15 years ago, just because it was so famous.

Netflix removed all the Karate Kid movies on Sept 1, btw, have to find them elsewhere now.

I think there maybe a cameo from Tamlyn Tomita (Daniels love interest from the second film) if they have Larusso go to Okinawa.

Ali im sure will be mother to one of the students - tory, eli, moon or another one - there will be some interaction between Johnny, Ali and Larusso not romantically but definitely to bring them together.

There may even be a cameo with Hilary swank in season 3 or 4 if they do that.

(1)Tory has to get expelled from school, and possibly face charges from the LaRusso's. I was hoping she would have disappeared after the brawl, and not even her fellow Cobra Kai's would have known where she was. Then she would make some big dramatic return sometime in the middle of the season. However after a rewatch I saw her in the dojo with Kreese at the end. She was to the far left of the room, and her face is only shown once. Perhaps she will start the season in Juvie, and then return.

Robbie might be more interesting. Does he get expelled from school? He didn't start it, and was acting as a peace keeper, until attacked. However he did continue the fight when it could have been over, and he severely injured someone and could have killed them. I think ultimately Daniel speaks on his behalf and he is reinstated. And eventually lets him come back to live with them.

Miguel does recover, and eventually returns to karate. But Kreese gets in his ear, and points out that it was Johnny's mercy that almost got him killed, so he turns his back on Johnny and rejoins Cobra Kai. He wins the All-Valley Tournament again and everyone is so happy for him, not realizing that he's basically a bad guy again.

Daniel goes to Okinawa and finds out more about the Myagi family. He regains his focus and returns bound and determined to defeat Cobra Kai. He recruits Johnny to help him, who has been in a drunk haze ever since the brawl. When he first goes back to the dojo he's thrilled to see that Sam has been leading a class of Aisha, Robbie, Demetri, and a few of the others.

Cobra Kai runs roughshot over not only the school, but the whole town. In order to help Kreese make his rent payments (this was not addressed by the way. Why would the landlord make this deal? Kreese was homeless, why would you trust him to pay his rent on time instead of just keeping Johnny?) They begin doing petty theft, and mugging people.
