This was so good.

The balance of fresh story and tribute to the original film was spot on. Surprisingly edgy and realistic. Depicted reckless behavior without cliche repercussions. The most amazing depiction of the "flawed hero" in Johnny. The way they handled the dojo as a beast with the right principals growing out control was heavy. A true delight from start to finish. And a very slow build! This story is just begun, they held a lot in reserve. The filmmaking and soundtrack all very old school. I think they absolutely nailed the mark of producing something to appeal to new fans and old. All the characters were full fleshed out. Reasonably solid acting. I like these new kids. The humor was right on the mark, not too funny, not too grim. It was all awesome.

Don't forget the precise amount of sentiment for Pat Morita's character Mr. Miyagi.

It didn't feel bolted on or overstated, just enough to make sure a mark was left but the rest of the story took precedence.

Yes, exactly. Perfect example of them handling something just right.
