The character arcs was done so well

Johnny, Robby, Hawk, Miguel all of them grew and changed so much over the season and by the end they was all different people than when we started with them. Hawk might be my favorite, he went from a scared wimpy little pushover to an outgoing badass not afraid of shit, he changed his appearance and became a new person.

And they wasn't done fast or anything they all slowly progressed and they all made perfect sense. I was just really impressed how they perfectly weaved all these different character arcs together so well.

This show was so well written. I just watched it a second time, and I was struck by how they were able to juggle so many characters and their interactions so effortlessly. If you read the wikipedia page summarizing the episodes, it really makes it clear how numerous and complex the interactions between the characters are. That they were able to fit all that into what is essentially a 5 hour movie and have it be a breeze for the viewer to understand is quite an achievement. Also, on second viewing, I was impressed by how much humor was written into the show.

Yes, oh my goodness, I never expected such great writing from this. My only gripe is that Robby's transition, both in terms of learning karate and change in attitude from a thug to a gentle kid was too abrupt. It felt rushed. Other than that, it was perfect. You can tell the writers loved the characters and source material.
