Mike Barnes

I think he will eventually show up on Cobra Kai. I think it's inevitable.

reply

Maybe Terry Silver too?? ✌

reply

That would be great. I didn't think Kreese would show up and he did.

reply

Terry was a hoot, be good to see him make an appearance.

reply

Aaaaasaaaiiiiiii!!!!

I would welcome literally anyone from the first 3 Karate Kid movies to this series (talking about you Snake). I'm not sure how they'd work Mike Barnes in. The rivalry between Johnny and Daniel was such a natural and relatable one (love triangle). Mike Barnes was just a hired gun who had no real emotional investment in his rivalry with Daniel so it would be interesting to see how they'd write him in.

Maybe season 2 will end with a shadowy figure entering the dojo who moves into the light to reveal it's Chozen from part II. And Johnny and Kreese look at him and say in unison "Who the hell are you?"

EDIT TO ADD: As he's walking in he's rolling a drum technique drum between his fingers.

reply

I would welcome a rematch between Daniel and Barnes. Daniel was afraid of him. He was even more afraid of him than Chozen, which I found strange since Chozen was way more intimidating. After that brutal fight with Chozen, how did he look so helpless against Barnes? In his match with Barnes, he got beat up most of the match and didn't snap out of it until the very end. I love when Mr. Miyagi gives him that pep talk on the mat when he's down. He says, "You stay focused. Daniel-san, your best karate still inside. Now time let out!" I love how Daniel looks at him. Then of course, there's the look on Daniel's face when he gets up. He has a look like, "that's it." Then it all comes back. I'd love if you got to see what happened to Barnes after his match with Daniel. Whatever happened to him? With all the illegal shit Terry Silver was doing, what happened to him? Maybe he's in jail. They have to bring back Barnes and I'd love it if Silver came back. I'd love if Barnes confronted Daniel and told him how he got lucky. Then this time, he messes with a different Daniel.

reply

If Barnes shows up, I'd say a showdown with Johnny is more likely.

reply

Johnny vs Barnes you mean? I can see them arguing over who scared Daniel the most. I can even see Barnes telling Johnny how he lost, but in his match with Daniel, LaRusso got lucky. I can see Barnes basically telling Johnny he had him. I wonder if Johnny was even aware of Daniel's match with Barnes at the time or if he even knows who Barnes is. I think it would be pretty funny if Barnes all of a sudden showed up and Johnny asked Daniel, "Who the hell is this guy? Friend of yours?"

reply

Nah. I see Barnes returning with Kreese and them both trying to wrestle Cobra Kai away from Johnny. Johnny will end up needing Daniel's help to deal with them.

reply

Barnes is probably dead, killed and put in a drum of toxic sludge for failing Terry Silver.

reply

It would be funny if Ali came back. Someone online mentioned that. It would be so awkward with her in the same room as Johnny and Daniel. Johnny did lose her, but you know what? Daniel lost her too. She dumped him too. Johnny tells Daniel that he stole his girl, but they forgot to mention that Daniel lost her too. Johnny and Daniel both have this in common. And I also came to realize that Miguel is Daniel and Samantha is Ali.

reply

Sean Kanan has said he's returning as Barnes in Season 2.

reply

So, I wonder what happened to the Cobra Kai dojo's that Terry siver was opening that he said were 100% John Kreeses and then he offered 50% to Barnes.

reply

My guess is it all fell through after the KKIII tournament with Cobra Kai being banned for life.

With Johnny having re-instated Cobra Kai, Kreese will be looking to take it back (with Mike Barnes).

At least, that's the scenario I'm hoping for.

reply

Why would the Cobra Kai be banned for life?

reply

"For the unethical and unsportsmanlike conduct shown by senseis Terry Silver, John Kreese, and their student Mike Barnes."

That's all the show says. Not sure if it relates to the KKIII tournament of other events afterwards.

reply

Must relate to afterwards because in KK3, Terry Silver pledges to sponsor the All Valley competition for the foreseeable future right before the final match.

reply

Yes, I like that angle. Johnny is flawed, but not evil. I think the audience really wants to see him and Daniel make peace. Kreese, Silver and Barnes are pretty much one-dimensional villains, though. So it would turn into a more cliche good vs. evil show if that happened.

One of the things I absolutely loved about the first season is how ambiguous it is about "good guys and bad guys". No one is perfectly good or evil. Everyone is flawed, but they have different ways of dealing with it, just as they have different karate styles. So, I'm not sure if they wanna try and pull that on Kreese, Silver and Barnes. I don't think it would work as well as it did with Johnny.

reply

I think that Johnny would make fun of Mike Barnes for losing to Daniel by one punch.

reply

I could see Barnes coming in if Terry Silver showed up. It could be easily explained that Barnes has been in Silver's employ for the last 29 years.

reply

Barnes legitimately hated Daniel and it came through in the performance. He was hired to beat Daniel up, which he did several times throughout the movie. Daniel FEARED him. Daniel's refusal to sign the contract just made Mike madder and madder. He viewed it as Daniel getting in the way of his livelihood and the hatred became real. I would LOVE to see him come back.

reply

I don't think Barnes will be returning. Chozen and Ali are already hinted at, adding Barnes would just be overkill. Although if he did, I realized he would probably have as much reason, if not more, to hate Kreese as well as Daniel. He was promised (in writing) 50% ownership in the dojo chain by Silver. That fell through when the chain folded. Afterwards Silver and Kreese probably just dropped him back in whatever hole they dug him up from. Now here is Kreese bringing the dojo back without him.

reply

Barnes was in the very first episode. Johnny was working for him as the handyman. Barnes fired him
