First time poster, not sure if i have to put in spoilers but there are spoilers

I need to warn everyone about this movie.

The cop tries to murder the wildlife sanctuary ranger after she finds out her brother is murdering girls. Somehow this is OK then she wants to try and find out who is actually killing people and arrest them? Why wouldn't she murder the girl who got stabbed. What kind of retarded hypocrite would do this.

Why wouldn't Nikolaj Coster-Waldau call the cops once he is hunted by someone then he finds them hunting people?

Also the detective work in this film is pathetic. And the whole serial killer part makes no sense. I haven't been disgusted by a movie this much in a while and since no one else was taking a shit on this movie, the duty falls to me.

I think this film was ok - not great, but not bad either.

There are a few decisions which did cause me to go hmmm....
The female sheriff was indeed depicted in an odd manner. Her decision making throughout the whole film left a lot to be desired. The ranger dude also made a few odd calls - letting off the sheriff after she shot him (he later said she didn't shoot him after all to let her off the hook), and going into the killer's house without calling for backup...

I guess you could say he wanted real justice and not the 'life in prison' sentencing that the killer would have gotten - which also explains his actions in the end. I guess you can explain away all of the odd decisions by various characters, but it all makes as much sense as the game of thrones final season. It all points to crappy writing (or perhaps crappy script which butchered the original story?), despite great, as always, acting from Nikolaj CW.

So, I'm saying this film was ok primarily due to good acting from nikolaj cw, but the characters in this film was butchered via shoddy writing. I'd say that with just a few changes in writing, this movie could easily equal that of Fargo. It has a similar setting, similar imperfect characters, good acting, and good cinematography.

I really wanted to like it. I like NCW and he was good in it, and the setting was unique. However, it had so many holes.

Spoilers:
As you mention, she instantly turns and shoots Nikolaj, which shook me and I loved that. But then she lets the guy go without checking to see if it really is her brother? C'mon. The dude stabbed a little girl. On top of that she isn't even investigated? And how she found out who the killer was seemed really iffy and convenient. It would have been better if Nik just did all the stuff without her knowing.

Why didn't Nikolaj call the cops one of several times? Did cell phones not work out there?

Did Nik ever go see a real doctor? He was harpooned and shot and from what I recall he never did go get real medical help. Why didn't he get help when he was speared the first time?

So was the serial killer hunting girls in this preserve for that long? If so how come it just now comes to Nik's attention? Where are all the dead bodies? In that barn? How many girls went missing? Did the cops not know there was a serial killer on the loose and girls were disappearing?

It just kind of felt like a little more work on the screenplay would have paid off. A lot of it seemed rather implausible.

I absolutely Think This movie was originally Written or maybe even shot with a different Motive for the killer but was forced to change ....

Once it was revealed The coroner was The Killer and It was revealed His daughter was killed by a drunk driver and was left to die in the Woods.....for Me The Ending was OBVIOUS, DARK and made The coroner's motives Clear

I thought They were going to reveal that Rayburn was The Drunk Driver that Killed The coroner's daughter.....that Rayburn Killed her in a hit and run and got away with it and somehow The coroner's figured out it was Rayburn and decided to Kill His daughter for revenge...Rayburn Killed his Daughter and left her to die in the woods, The coroner's Kills Rayburns daughter in the woods...

I then thought it would be revealed The Killer would then say something Like, "I thought Killing your daughter was going to be just for revenge, to take away from you what you took away from me....But ......I enjoyed it....It was The Ultimate RUSH and I just had to keep doing it"

This would perfectly explain the Killers Motives, Why specifically he Killed Rayborns daughter, Why he started Killing and Why he kept Killing

I would bet anything they were forced to change this ending though because it would be devastated for The Rayburn's characters redemption ark....

But for me, Theres clearly something missing here....The second I heard "his daughter was killed by a drunk driver and left to die in the wood",,,I instantly thought "Oh shit, It was Rayburn....oh man thats why The Coroner Killed his daughter"

It just make too much sense, But It would really Make you not like The Rayburn character

Yea, the instant turn and shoot would’ve been better had they not wimped out on the follow up. I also wondered about all the girls for five years. Someone said she was new to town as sheriff so maybe that’s why she didn’t know but everyone else? And where was his ex-wife at the daughter’s funeral? This script was just bad and had no follow through.

I agree! She should've been arrested immediately, but no, she gets to continue holding a badge & gun. Also, she merely has a flesh wound on her leg after stepping in a fucking bear trap. She walks away with an Ace bandage & a slight limp. The wildlife sanctuary guy gets shot with an arrow, stabbed, bludgeoned, stomped, slapped, and everything else under the sun, yet....no hospitals, stitches, surgery or pain meds of any kind. The next day he's cleaning up his cabin like nothing. He also is a fall down drunkard, yet....the next day decides to pour all the booze out and become a teetotaler with not an hint of the DTs. It's a miracle!!!

Not just an arrow, it was a spear (thrown at high velocity with an atlatl throwing stick), and it had an obsidian spear head. Obsidian can be sharpened to an edge like a scalpel. That thing would have seriously cut him up.

Who's going to arrest her? She was the Sheriff and therefore the top authority. Aside from Rayburn Swanson, the only person who knew the other side of the story was Officer Blackhawk from the Reservation. While he was skeptical of the Sheriff's account of what went down, he didn't know for sure and had to drop it once Rayburn unexpectedly changed his story.

This leads to what happens in the climax where the Sheriff allows Rayburn to have his justice in the wildlife refuge, although it was a split-second decision. Rayburn then tells her they're even.

There are different kinds of traps. What type did she step in? Regardless, if it was made for a bear, it's plausible that it wouldn't cause as much damage for a woman's thin ankle.

Rayburn wanted vengeance on the kidnapper/murderer of his daughter, which would've been hindered if the police got involved, so he handled things himself. He's a tough do-it-yourself outcast living alone in the wilderness with his dog. The only medication he cared about or needed was alcohol. The way he effectively handled the serious spear wound showed that he was used to handling these kinds of things himself.

with not an hint of the DTs.

The sequence of events in the movie didn't seem to take too long. If he genuinely quits drinking, as the ending implies, the delirium tremens would manifest shortly later, but he now (hopefully) had the motivation and will to overcome. We don't really know of course since that's where the movie leaves us. Maybe he'll reach out to AA for support now that he's put his daughter to rest and he has a sense of justice served.

The girl was seriously wounded and unconscious, not to mention possibly dead.

What kind of retarded hypocrite would do this.

She did it for the same reason Jesse James' mother didn't turn him in. Some people value allegiance to kin above all else, whether they're conscious of it or not. Until they're in a position of extreme testing, like the Sheriff in that scene, it's hard to say what split-second decision they'll make. Later you can hear her mumble, "What have I done?"

As noted in my previous post, Rayburn Swanson wanted vengeance on the kidnapper/murderer of his daughter, which would've been hindered if the police got involved. Also, the sanctuary was his domain and he saw himself as the authority. Furthermore, the movie paints him as a radical do-it-yourself outcast; for instance, after getting speared he takes care of his serious wound himself instead of going to the nearest emergency ward. It seemed like the most normal thing for him.

And the whole serial killer part makes no sense.

Do the actions of a serial killer ever make sense? They're psychos even if they can hide it and function in society as a seemingly normal person, like the doctor. It seems the death of his daughter by a drunk driver sent him over the edge.
