Started watching and quit...

...when it began to morph into just another Trump bashing production.

Pass.

reply

You do realize they used the actual original clips of Trump saying all those things right? Things he still stands by to this day.

If Trump is being bashed, it's his own past doing the bashing.

reply

Yes, of course, I’m not an idiot. It’s just convenient timing for this series. Why are they just now doing this show based on events that happened 30 years ago? Because they have footage of Trump saying some unpleasant things. How else are they going to get it out there? Well let’s make a mini series about it and slap it on Netflix.

reply

Are you one of those people who support their leaders no matter what they do? The story isn’t about Trump, it’s about injustice and it just happens to involve him.

reply

No I’m not one of those people but I’m sick of the Trump bashing. It’s EVERYWHERE and it’s mind-numbingly repulsive.

reply

He has done and said some really reprehensible things, you can’t expect the world not to react to him having the most powerful position in the world right now.

reply

Yeah so have a lot of people. The Trump Derangement Syndrome is getting old.

reply

People who want to ignore the things Trump has done is getting old.

reply

Libs/Dems & clueless people ignoring the corrupt things Obama & Hillary have done is way older or more prominent.

reply

We weren’t talking about them, everyone knows that the Clintons are corrupt but that has nothing to do with the topic.

reply

Yes it does: Dems/Libs get a pass while Republicans/Conservatives are lambasted if they do anything 1/100th as bad. It's Liberal privilege; and the double standard is totally unacceptable.

I'm not starting a quarrel, just making a legitimate point.

reply

I'm not saying that's not true, I just think if you gave some examples to illustrate your point, that would be helpful.

reply

[deleted]

It’s not Netflix’s fault that Trump has consistently being on the wrong side of history and has been constantly screwing up when it comes to race relations. Now he is President and is subject to this kind of scrutiny. It’s fair game.

reply

the media takes everything he says out of context,
the man is anything but racist

reply

The 5 creeps confessed to being present at the rape and even helping the (supposed) actual rapist restrain Trisha Melli. They were essentially accomplices to the rape. Further, they confessed to violently beating other people in Central Park that night. They're not victims at all. You've been suckered by propaganda, much like the "Free Mumia" crowd has.

reply

It was a false confession bro.

reply

"It was a false confession bro."

That was not proven, not one bit. You've been suckered by historical revisionism that is politically convenient at the moment. These convictions were vacated 17 years ago. It's just a coincidence that this highly biased film gets belched onto Netflix just as the 2020 presidential election is ramping up, with Trump unnecessarily highlighted by Ava Du Vernay?

reply

Oh, shut up and stop lying, troll. None of what you said is true.

reply

Even assuming the confession for the rape was false, it doesn't explain why the convictions for the other assaults they were alleged to have committed on the same evening were thereby deemed to be unreliable as well.

reply

Without the confession, they didnt have sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial.

Regardless of what the other 4 did or didn't do, one of them wasn't there. He only got the charge when he went to the police station with his friend.

reply

The fact is, trump was the one who put out a huge ad in the paper calling these boys animals and saying they deserved the death penalty, before their first trial was even held, and before they were even proven guilty or innocent. He's the one who inserted himself into the debate over the case---nobody ever asked him to. As much as you hate to hear that, that's exactly what happened. I remember when this case actually happened, and I remember hearing about that ad he put out. He basically contributed to the hate toward these boys, making it harder for them to get a fair trial. Just shows even back then, he was a nasty, vindictive man who liked to attack people of color, period. What he did back then was nothing new

reply

It's so nice to come here and see people talking about this. I tried to get a conversation going on other boards but couldn't

I found this show very compelling, especially Korey Wise's story

reply

Amen ✌

reply

Why quit watching?

The story is a roadmap for how to handle these type of issues moving forward.

reply

Nah, seems more like a hate-filled piece of 2020 election propaganda. I’ll pass.

reply

You're selling yourself short. And let's say it was, by seeing it for yourself you're probably able to separate fact from fiction from propaganda both pro and con, and are thus more informed.

reply

You're on the wrong side of history. Trump is criticized by most people on the planet for many good reasons. I'm not sure why you would support such a reprehensible lowlife who thinks nothing of tearing babies from their mothers arms, placing young children in cages and executing innocent people.

BTW, he still hasn't apologized which makes him very small. Not surprising considering that he considers neo-Nazis marching in the streets screaming, "Jews will not replace us!" to be very fine people.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel rebukes Trump politics in Harvard commencement speech:
"Tear down walls of ignorance and narrow-mindedness, for nothing has to stay as it is...the maxim of truth requires us not to describe lies as truth and truth as lies."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/05/31/angela-merkel-rebukes-trump-politics-harvard-commencement-speech/1298475001/

reply

See? TDS.

reply

How are Keelai's statements examples of Trump bashing?

reply

Didn’t say they were...

reply

See? TDS
or am I misunderstanding what TDS means?

reply

Frankly, with all of his behavior, one is deranged if he or she does not have the supposed "TDS".....

reply

You are the one who started commenting about Trump in a nonTrump topic. I came here to verify if this movie was about the Central Park Five.

In the future, if you don't want people talking about him, then you shouldn't change the topic to him.

reply

Why can't you accept the truth instead of just quoting an acronym. If you did your own research you will find that it isn't Trump Derangement Syndrome, but the truth. maybe you can't handle the fact that the person you have hitched your political beliefs to is a POS.

reply

"Why can't you accept the truth instead of just quoting an acronym. If you did your own research you will find that it isn't Trump Derangement Syndrome, but the truth. maybe you can't handle the fact that the person you have hitched your political beliefs to is a POS."

Give us a break. You get your "truth" from television. If you think this film gives an unbiased presentation of all the "truth" in this case then you're remarkably ignorant.

reply

No I don't but in this case, the Trump vision is actual vision, and factual as to what he said and did. Therefore there is no derangement in this case because it is actual fact, i.e. the truth. There is no bashing per se but showing what actually happened. Unfortunately you can't see the wood for the trees.

reply

Typical libcuck nonsense, agreed..

reply

How are innocent men spending years in prison for a crime they didn't commit nonsense? And what does ideology have to do with anything?

reply

Cuz anything that reminds Trumphumpers their dear leader is a sack of shit triggers them.

reply

This.
Which has got to be difficult considering that sacks of shit act accordingly...and Trump has been a sack of shit in the public eye for decades now, purposefully putting himself out there.
Showing Trump as a sack of shit isn't "Trump bashing"...its just showing Donald Trump.

reply

They were hardly innocent. They admitted to being present at the rape and even helping the supposed rapist commit the rape by restraining Trisha Melli. Do you know anything whatsoever about the case? Do you think people who cheer on and facilitate a rape are innocents?

reply

It's very easy for the police to coerce a confession from a child or someone mentally disabled. That's why the police aren't allowed to question children under 16 without their parents/guardians present which these cops did anyway. The police also aren't allowed to release the names of children under 16 to the media which they did anyway.

All the children were either 14 or 15 years old.

The newspapers blasted their faces on the front covers and treated them as if they were guilty.

The actual rapist was named Matias Reyes. He was a serial rapist and murderer who had raped another woman in Central Park a few days earlier. He was never charged with this rape because the statute of limitations ran out since the cops were busy arresting innocent children.

This week, the lead prosecutor resigned as lecturer at Columbia Law School. Another prosecutor just lost her book deal.

Very typical that Trump would want to execute innocent children.

reply

"The actual rapist was named Matias Reyes."

Yes, we all know the story of the psychopath who claimed he acted alone (despite the CP5 having creamed their pants that night some time along the way). Matias the psycho was diagnosed during his earlier trials that he was incapable of telling the truth. Yet, miraculously, the rapist who gouged out the eyes of his victims so they couldn't identify him suddenly developed a conscience and decided to do the right thing. You can believe that if you want, but I'd just consider you a fool. Yup, Matias Reyes - a good upstanding guy with a conscience. The fact is that there is not a shred of evidence exonerating the five scumbags. There is plenty of evidence that they were perfectly well aware of the rape that Reyes had committed (which I believe; I just don't believe he was alone). Forgetting for a moment about their supposedly forced confessions, their long history of violence prior to Melli's rape, and the racist attacks they were known to have participated in that night, these idiots denied having raped anyone before anyone told them anyone had been raped. Even one of their relatives said they didn't commit any rape (again, before the police told them about it), thinking it would help instead of actually being a damning piece of evidence against them.

The fact is nobody knows for certain whether these 5 scumbags actually raped Melli. There is plenty of evidence, now ignored by people like you who get their information from highly biased movies, that they were at the very least accomplices to the rape. People like you are persuaded by a very dumb, racist narrative: the victim was a "privileged" white girl, the perps were 5 black kids who must be innocent due to all the previous exposed corruption in the NYPD. And now these 5 violent jerks are being trotted around like celebrities instead of being vilified as the heartless, violent felons they truly are. You're happy to gobble up the propaganda you want to hear.

reply

Unfortunately for you, your stupidity will never be fixed. It figures, you would side with a serial rapist murderer. Go visit your pal Matias in prison.

The five black children, who are now men, are leading productive lives which is more than I can say for you, sock puppet.

reply

"Unfortunately for you, your stupidity will never be fixed. It figures, you would side with a serial rapist murderer. Go visit your pal Matias in prison."

If you inferred that I sided with the psycho rapist Matias Reyes then you've got serious reading comprehension problems.

"The five black children, who are now men, are leading productive lives which is more than I can say for you, sock puppet."

Productive? Trotting around as fake victims and living large from the undeserved 41 million? As is typical of racist leftists like yourself, once you were cornered by inconvenient facts all you had to come back with was childish insults. It's pretty clear you don't know fact one about this case and you get all your information from Hollywood style dramatizations.

reply

You're obviously a bigot since you keep bringing up race. Crawl back under your white sheet, sock puppet. Your racism is something you and Trump have in common.

I can't wait for incoming President Biden to clean house! Prison and sanctions to all who deserve it!!!

reply

The CP5 scumbags were part of a group screaming "get whitey!" while chasing white people around, raping them, and beating them with pipes and bricks. They are the racists, as are you for denying that racial component.

reply

You're obviously a racist. Haunt your regular KKK websites instead of trolling this one.

reply

ccr.....

Why don't you just go away? You add NOTHING to the discussion...NOTHING.

reply

Everybody ignore this troll---he/she has being doing this dame s*** for years, going to boards and spewing ignorant racist garbage about any film or TV show about black people. Go eff off somewhere else with your BS, you old, stupid sorry-ass troll. None of the bull**** you spouted is true, none of it. So stop lying and making up---you're despicable as h***,

reply

The sad thing is Trump is only briefly discussed in the first 30 minutes or so. The rest of the episodes are really powerful. Especially the last one. What that kid went thru was pure hell!

reply

Probably. The problem is that many people is getting sick of the same narrative again, and again, and again: blacks, victims/good, white, evil/abusers.

What would you think of a movie made in nazi Germany where the Jew is an evil person?

Now, what if the movie was based in real facts? Would you change your mind and think it's a rightful movie?

reply

Oh cry me a fucking river with that plight of the white man bullshit! You get sick of movies where black people are victimized by the justice system? Well we are sick of it happening in reality. It is tale that is literally as old as this country and still happens today.

I'm not saying african americans are saints or that there aren't plenty of guilty black people rightfully in prisons, but the justice system is still racist as hell. Unequal sentencing, a parole system designed for recidivism, and police who can kill with zero justifications are still very much happening today.

Hell the white equivalent of this story would be a Brock Turner movie, where eye witnesses saw him raping a girl, he admitted it, and only got 6 months probation because "prison would severely impact his life".

reply

Actually, they didn't see Turner 'raping her'. They saw him giving her oral sex. She said later that it was non-consensual and she had fainted. That could be true or could be a lie. They had been seen kissing that same night, and she used to have casual sex with guys, so the more likely scenario is that it was consensual. I'm saying 'likely', since only they know for sure. He was declared guilty even though.

None of both cases had a fair trial (the one in this series or Turner's one). None of them were convicted based in the necessary evidence. The difference is that while you complain about one of those trials, you're willing to sing 'Oh Yeah' for the other one. You're no better than the guys that sentenced the guys in this series.

reply

No, the men said him on top of her trying to pull her clothes and she was unconscious, to the point where they actually thought she was dead. It was also very cold out---and the woman thinks this Turner guy drugged her---for one thing, she did not even know him, she only had 2 drinks or so---and didn't even remember going outside with him until she woke up hours later. So there was nothing consensual about it. And that stupid sexist comment you made about her having casual sex---so what? A woman dosen't deserved to be nearly raped simply because she likes sex---that sounds so damn stupid. Look up the case, and stop trying to make like this Turner guy was the victim. He's the one who got a damn slap on the wrist for what he did.

reply

Are you saying the Nazis were the good ones and the Jews were the bad ones? You're talking nonsense. It figures that you would identify with Nazis.

Re: the movie, if you actually watched it then you would know that the Central Park Five were found guilty by the news media long before they had a trail. They had their photos plastered on the front pages and were called animals who were out wilding".

Trump is one of those idiots who leads a lynch mob to attack the innocent and you're among the mindless supporters in his mob.

reply

• "Are you saying the Nazis were the good ones and the Jews were the bad ones?"

Obviously not. I'm not saying that nazis are lobsters neither.

• "if you actually watched it then you would know that the Central Park Five were found guilty by the news media long before they had a trail."

So what? That's the usual standard in every country in the world.

• "Trump is one of those idiots who leads a lynch mob to attack the innocent and you're among the mindless supporters in his mob."

I disagree with what he said in this case. That doesn't change that this series is another political propaganda Trump-bashing series by Netflix, gone 30 back in time to cherry pick another case.

reply

"Obviously not. I'm not saying that nazis..."

Not obvious at all. It sounds like you strongly identify with them. Why would you suggest that Jews were the evil ones when discussing Nazis?

"So what? That's the usual standard in every country in the world."
Actually, it's not. Is it like that in the "Ukraine" aka: Russia?

"I disagree with what he said in this case."
Obviously, you don't or you wouldn't be crying about his being criticized for saying it.

reply

• "Not obvious at all. It sounds like you strongly identify with them."

Well, when I compared the way mainstream media cherry-picks cases to convey a racial/ethnic narrative with the way nazis did, you thought I was praising them.

It was not a praise, it was a criticism, both to nazis and mainstream media. However, since you find that behavior right, you thought I was praising them and identifying with them. But if find that behavior wrong. It's YOU the one that identifies with that behavior, maybe not with them as a group, but definitely with the way they acted.

• "Actually, it's not. Is it like that in the "Ukraine" aka: Russia?"

Ukraine AKA Russia??? Ahem... you know they're differnt countries, don't you? And different cultures, and different languages...

It's true that modern west Ukraine was traditionally Russian territory. That was forced on Gorbachev to debilitate Russia, and it's something Russians are not very happy about (to say it politely). Modern Ukrainian boundaries don't fit historical Ukraine because of post-cold war political reasons. But Ukraine is NOT Russia neither 'AKA Russia', the same Lithuania is not 'AKA Russia', Austria is not 'AKA Germany' or Sri Lanka is not 'AKA India'.

FIRST learn to tell apart countries, THEN make statements about them.

• "Obviously, you don't or you wouldn't be crying about his being criticized for saying it."

I disagree with usury, and at the same time I disagree with movies portraying systematically Jews as evil-usurers. Here I disagree with what Trump said in that case, and at the same time I disagree with movies and series portraying systematically Trump or white males in general as evil-doers.

You can't understand that concept. Don't worry, that's fine. That's why you thought before I was praising nazis: from your point of view the way they behaved was right, and you can't understand that some people could think otherwise.

reply

"What would you think of a movie made in nazi Germany where the Jew is an evil person?"

Your comment is dumb. It would actually be comparable by portraying the Nazis as good people. Trump did something bad and you want him to be portrayed positively.

BTW, Jews in Nazi Germany were portrayed as evil. How come you don't know this?

"Ukraine AKA Russia???"
I was referring to the Russian trolls who migrated to this site after being kicked off Facebook and Twitter who identify themselves as Russian-loving "Ukraines".

"I disagree with movies and series portraying systematically Trump or white males in general as evil-doers."

The movie is about five innocent men who went to prison. Trump is evil but it'll take you a few years to figure it out. His supporters tend to be on the slow side.

95% of movies/TV shows portray white men as the heroes or protagonists. Down from 99.98% in the past. Five innocent men go to prison for years, and it's Trump you feel sorry for? You sound like an idiot.

reply

If you're waiting around for some historically accurate show to portray Trump in a good light, you're going to be waiting a long time. On account of Trump being Trump. A pretty reprehensibly ignorant idiot.

This was major news back in the day and for that, as well as the sake of the five innocent people sent to prison, a story that deserved to be told. The fallout from the part that Trump played in all this doesn't fall on anyone's shoulders but his own.

Trump is Trump...he's always been a pos person, acted like a pos person, here's his historical actions as a pos person and here you are huffing and puffing, blaming the production. That's just fucking priceless.

reply

Trump is a big time jerk and general embarrassment to the USA. Problem is, so is most of the leaders of today's Democratic Party. Anyway, there was nothing racist in his newspaper ads a the time decrying the violent cesspool that New York City had descended to. There are plenty of narcissists and politically motivated charlatans trying to spin it that way, but it's complete bullshit. And it wasn't only white people who were sick of the crime.

reply

Oh, shut up. You obviously haven't seen the series. It's not even about trump, so get off that bull****. Until you're seen the show, you really have no right to be complaining about it. trump actually did put out that ad which prejudiced people against these boys, before they even had their first trial. You trump lovers act like you can't stand anybody criticizing him---give it a rest, because it's so damn ridiculous.

reply

Why even come here and post if you didn't even finish the entire mini-series if not to just spread Trump propaganda?

reply

Over the while race baiting bullshit.

reply

If you're purposely trying to make Trump supporters appear foolish here, then great job Skatter, well done!

From what I understand, Trump's actions played a very small role in this production, but they were just that, HIS actions. Showing Trump's part in this story isn't "Trump bashing" as much as its just telling the truth of the damn story.
If you really don't like the way he's portrayed...okay, but why bash the messenger then? It was Trump who acted like Trump, not anyone else's fault.

If Trump were to tweet out some ignorant, reprehensible rhetoric and WaPo re-printed it...would you be just super pissed at WaPo for Trump bashing? Because this is just history dude...this is simply what happened. Its just reality, plain and simple, and up to you to deal with it. If you can't...that's on you, not on this production.

If you're not purposely trying to make Trump supporters appear foolish, then there's some serious cognitive dissonance going on here. But I'm going to guess the former.

reply

What a snowflake.

Over four hours of drama documenting a colossal injustice perpetrated against a group of innocent teenagers and youngsters but what gets you REALLY outraged is the approx one minute of unaltered footage of Trump jumping on the bandwagon and a few comments by parents unhappy he’s calling for the death penalty for their kids.

Sad.

reply

They weren't innocent of violent thuggery at all. All that happened was that a psycho rapist, who psychiatrists had diagnosed as incapable of telling the truth, spun a far fetched tale that he raped alone. This simply cast doubt on who did the raping. None of this explains away the evidence, from the statements of the CP5 brutes themselves, that they were at least present - if not participants - in the rape. Yet now we're to believe they're even innocent of their racist hate crime attacks on other people in Central Park that evening. You're deluded pal. Probably it's your own racism that inclines you to taking this film dramatization as gospel.

reply

You should also consider the DNA evidence. The DNA evidence could not connect any of the central park five. But it did connect Matias Reyes.

The statements were made without adult supervision and without an attorney present. That made those statements unreliable.

While it doesn’t prove innocence, it does not prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Even without Reyes’s confessions, they never should have been found guilty.

reply

I’m sorry, were you responding to me? I was chastising the OP for being such a snowflake, but since you decided to make an ass of yourself the simple fact of the matter is, if any of those children had taken part in the rape in any way shape or form, some of their DNA would’ve remained at the scene. There was none.

Any you call me a racist? I would bring up the old homily of the pot calling the kettle black but you would probably call that racist as well.

reply

"if any of those children had taken part in the rape in any way shape or form, some of their DNA would’ve remained at the scene. There was none."

You clearly don't know anything about the history of the use of DNA as criminal evidence. It was a science in its infancy, so the cops didn't even contemplate looking for samples anywhere but on the brutally raped Melli. These days they would scrape samples all over the immediate area. There was plenty of evidence that the Central Park 5 were present at the scene and at the very least were accomplices to rape. Nobody but historical revisionists, racebaiters, and modern day propagandists think that just one person was present at the scene of the rape. Even the prosecutor at the time stated that there were others who got away (one of them the psychopath Reyes, as it turned out). It wasn't DNA evidence that convicted the CP5 thugs and it didn't exonerate them as rape accomplices who helped beat Melli to death. Yes, I do think your racial bigotry clouds your mind and makes you ignore the volume of evidence against the CP5.

reply

Ha ha - yes, you keep telling yourself that.

You clearly have an agenda, one in which you desperately want it to be true that the children found guilty solely on the basis of coerced confessions were actually guilty despite no DNA evidence to back it up, and that’s because nowadays we have better methods of collecting DNA.

In other words, the lack of any concrete evidence doesn’t mean anything because, well, look at them - they must be guilty.

And you have the audacity to follow that up with a sling of ad hominem’s. Ironic doesn’t even come close to labeling the level of hypocrisy you bring to this “discussion.”

Pathetic.

Had a single one of those children stuck their penis’s in her, or participated in any other way in the attack, there would’ve been sufficient DNA at the scene to have at the very minimum identified one of them, but there wasn’t. Period.

reply

ccr:
Oh, STFU and stop lying, troll. None of the bull**** you claim is true, so get off of it.
