It's amazing how many Bruce Lee fanboys and sycophants are on here . . .

. . . whining like little girls and getting light headed because of an unflattering portrayal of a DEAD guy. It's just a movie, people.

BASED ON WHAT IVE SEEN AND READ OF LEE...IT ISNT THAT FAR OFF EITHER.

RickGee You are the whining little bitch. Fuck off already 😆

i am not a bruce lee fan at all but doing that is definately unfair and below the belt hit, the fact that he is dead doesnt change a thing, what if it had been Mohamed Ali or Mike Tyson or McGregor instead of Bruce Lee? Or a super celebrity from the NFL MLB or NBA and have a 50 y/o nobody beating them?

It's just weird and very low that tarantino did that

That one part was more paying homage to the James Garner film called Marlow where the supposed invincible, Bruce Lee, looses his fight scene(actually miscue his final drop kick & falls out a window to his death several floors below).

What were all those Rocky movies about? Other than white guy beating an Muhammad Ali caliber black dude(where were the complaints?)

reply

There's ways and ways to do that.

In the early seasons of Game Of Thrones, characters show their intelligence outsmarting each other. Tywin's intelligence is even more impressive since he beats opponents that are far from being stupid. Last seasons of GoT, without RR Martin's source material, the way D&D showed some character is smart is making her rude while making everyone else completely stupid.

Something similar can be applied here. You can make Lee a very tough opponent, and still make him lose the battle (this is what Lee himself did with Chuck Norris character in The Way of the Dragon). Or... you can make him look like a worthless moron, which was what Tarantino did.

That's bad writing. And what's worse: you're not portraying some fictional guy. You're portraying a real person.

reply

But you're getting it from the pov of Brad Pitt's character, so of course he's going to make Lee look like a chump and himself a tough guy. The other scene with Lee he's completely different and for good reason.

AS SOMEONE WHO HAS READ MULIPLE BIOS AND SEEN QUITE A BIT OF CANDID FOOTAGE...THE BRUCE LEE PORTRAYED IN ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD IS NOT TOO FAR OFF THE REAL GUY...PERSONALITY WISE,AS FAR AS THE FIGHTING...BRAD IS THE STAR OF THE FILM..HAVE TO BUILD HIS CHARACTER UP FOR THE FINAL SCENE.

I didn't see Lee as a moron or a pushover. They agreed to no blows to the head before the fight, or Pitt's character would have been dead or unconscious. Lee just got overconfident fighting some stuntman. No way he would lose a real fight, even in the universe of this movie.

Thank you.

INDEED! I thought the Bruce Lee scenes were hilarious !!! Haven’t we all wanted to knock the shit out of an evil Ninja? I mean .... come on... we’ve all pretended to kick a japs ass as kids after learning about Pearl Harbor.... that doesn’t make you racist. I’m white and my kids are 1/2 asian. My kids do funny impressions of the asian foreign language.... (they grew up in Texas) Do you really think asians don’t make fun of Americans? We all need to have a sense of humor.
