A couple of random questions...

i. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but Dicaprio's character seemed to have a minor speech impediment at times. Anyone read anything of this, or have ideas about its meaning?

ii. This one is more personal speculation... there are no right answers. Did Cliff kill his wife?

On the side of YES: The Bruce Lee incident and the flat tire incident demonstrated that he didn't have much tolerance for perceived bullshit and could unleash violence when he was pushed.

So when his wife started nagging him, mebbe he decided to put an end to it.

On the side of NO: Notably, he doesn't deny the accusations or even appear to take offence. He just lets them roll off his back because he's that kind of guy... he doesn't give a s**t what people think of him, except his friends.. His relationship with Dalton, his dog and the incident at the ranch demo his fierce but undemanding sense of friendship and loyalty.

In my heart, I like to think no he didn't do it.

I wonder if QT will ever let us know?

reply

I. Yes, I noticed it too. I can’t believe how nobody seems to talk about it.

II. Well, it’s left to our speculations. I liked the points you made about the yes and nos.

reply

1. Speech impediment? No, I just thought he was drunk.

2. Definitely not. Cliff is a stand-up guy, who does the right thing. He would have been loyal to his wife, even if she nagged him.

reply

Speech impediment, I didn’t notice but I did think that he sometimes was attempting to do a Christian Slater impersonation.

I don’t get the impression that he killed his Wife. He seemed like a pretty stand up guy. He may have got physical when called for but he seemed in total control and cool as cucumber.

reply

As someone else mentioned, I think he was just slurring his words due to being a drunk.

As for Cliff killing his wife, I doubt he did it. As you said, I don’t think he cares what people think of him.

reply

I think it was an accident.

But I liked the character. So I kind of want him to be innocent.

reply

i. I think his character is supposed to be portrayed as being kind of burned out and washed up as he laments himself in the trailer

I think this is due to his vices as well. He smokes a lot which over time makes you edgy and nervous. His stuttering and foregetting his lines maybe attributed to the pot and drinking as mentioned by others.

The stammering a pretty major part of Leo's performance here...one of the reasons it will likely get an Oscar nomination.

Could be from drinking, drugs, a loss of confidence in himself but also...could be Rick's lifelong problem. A number of actors have found that "being another person"(acting) takes away a stutter or a stammer. At least while they are on stage or in front of the camera.

There can be no answer as to whether or not Cliff killed his wife. Brad Pitt tells us "he knows"(QT told him, so he could play the part), but what seems most clear in the film is that HOLLYWOOD believes he killed his wife, and that's evidently one reason why his stuntman career ended and he lives off of Rick Dalton(who can evidently only pay Cliff enough to rent THAT trailer, and eat THAT food.)

Many wiki implementations, such as MediaWiki, the software that powers Wikipedia, allow users to supply an edit summary when they edit a page. This is a short piece of text summarizing the changes they have made (e.g., "Corrected grammar," or "Fixed formatting in table."). It is not inserted into the article's main text, but is stored along with that revision of the page, allowing users to explain what has been done and why, similar to a log message when making changes in a revision-control system. This enables other users to see which changes have been made by whom and why, often in a list of summaries, dates and other short, relevant content, a list which is called a "log" or "history."

Navigation
Within the text of most pages, there are usually many hypertext links to other pages within the wiki. This form of non-linear navigation is more "native" to a wiki than structured/formalized navigation schemes. Users can also create any number of index or table-of-contents pages, with hierarchical categorization or whatever form of organization they like. These may be challenging to maintain "by hand", as multiple authors and users may create and delete pages in an ad hoc, unorganized manner. Wikis can provide one or more ways to categorize or tag pages to support the maintenance of such index pages. Some wikis, including the original, have a backlink feature, which displays all pages that link to a given page. It is also typically possible in a wiki to create links to pages that do not yet exist, as a way to invite others to share what they know about a subject new to the wiki. Wiki users can typically "tag" pages with categories or keywords, to make it easier for other users to find the article. For example, a user creating a new article on cold weather cycling might "tag" this page under the categories of commuting, winter sports and bicycling. This would make it easier for other users to find the article.
