I'll never see this - Anyone else the same?

Brad Pitt, DiCrapio and Tarantino is just too much for me in one film.

Maybe two out of the three in combo I could handle but all three together just seems a step too far.

I've never been able to take DiCarprio and his wee red bawheid seriously. I mean he was eye candy for girls in Titanic (which I never understood given his head) but here we are a few years down the line and he's built up with Pitt here like they're a pair of real acting gods. Do most people really buy that these days? Just seems too weird to me.

And Tarantino, yeah for years I thought his films were cool, real event cinema. But now I guess I'm just too old and cynical for that too. I just can't be buying that either...

Anyone else not completely blowing their wad over this one?

I’ve seen it 3 times. I thought he was heading down hill with Hateful 8 but this one is great. Give it a try

Really, please give it a watch, you won't be disappointed. I myself have seen it twice! Oh, and please also watch "The Hateful Eight", if you haven't. That's a great movie too!

Agreed, Hateful Eight and Django are both disappointing, but this movie is a huge pleasure. Felt more mature, was stylish but more concerned with story and less with stylised gratuitous violence.

Totally agree.. QT films after L.Bender / Basterds are lacking the edit and pace.

I was OK with both Django and H8ful but Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood I really enjoyed!

You should watch the movie before you judge the actors. They are both great in this even though I am not a fan of them.

Not a fan of Tarantino, or Pitt, or DiCaprio. But I am a fan of Hollywood and westerns, and have knowledge of the Manson murders. I grew up in the '60s, so I really appreciated how the film accurately depicted the time. The film is very good, and I actually enjoyed the actors' performances. Would love to see it a second time in the theater.

Some interesting posts chaps, thanks. Seems like it's a well received film.

However, I didn't make the OP to troll fans of these guys, nor to have my mind changed. I really did just wonder if any other people were like me and just found this kind of thing too weird to even entertain.

I genuinely find Di Crapio being taken as a real, serious actor stunningly bizarre. Admittedly I haven't seen him in a load of things, e.g. haven't seen Django, Revenant, Wolf of Wall St, Gatsby, Aviator... but then the films I have see him in (just out of interest in the premise, in no way specifically for him) like Inception and Shutter Island, well he wasn't so bad as to ruin the films but I would say not entirely convincing as a real man, a guy who could have a family in either.

As for Pitt. Much the same, always just seen him as eye candy for teenage girls so find it bizarre that he grows a pencil moustache, mugs it a bit with Clowney and we're supposed to take him seriously... I suppose the best way to sum up my take on him is that I thought Edward Norton must have been embarrassed to star alongside HIM in Fight Club!

Seems though that I'm very much in a minority here though, shocked that we still have guys that grew up with Tarantino still giving him fawning reverence all these years later...

I didn't care much for the 3 previous films before his latest, but even with that, Tarantino is one of the best directors around these days. I do enjoy Pitt more than DiCaprio, but again, they are two of the best actors at this time. I watch lots of movies and see lots of actors in those movies and I personally believe this to be true.

Have you seen 'The Departed'? Di Caprio was absolutely amazing in that film, also 'Catch Me IF You Can'. He was great in 'Django', 'Wolf of Wall Street' and 'The Revenant' too. I think he is a quality actor and not just eye candy. Out of all the films I have mentioned above, you should definitely give 'The Departed and 'Django' a try. A lot of other great actors in them too and so entertaining.

Brad Pitt on the other hand, I agree, I'm not really into his acting. Always found him poor and that he was in films for his looks. However, he was good in 'Legends of the Falls' and 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood", which I think his greatest performance to date.

No, I haven't seen The Departed. I'm sure I will land up giving that a watch some time though. I just remembered the one of other films I have seen him though was Gangs of New York. A bit like The Departed that was one I had in my mind as supposedly being a great film. Boy, was I wrong there! Didn't even make it half way through before I stopped watching, amazingly hammy movie...

But yes Brad Pitt is probably even worse. Weirdly though if you take away his earlier "hits" - Seven, Fight Club - there isn't really much on his résumé that you'd even view as particularly required viewing.

I agree with Gangs of New York. I didn’t like it at all and it’s forgettable, which is strange for me as I can watch Scorsese films over and over again. So hopefully that gives you an incentive to watch The Departed. Love it so much.
