Villains son was Asian? Why?

Was this a shoutout to racial diversity?

It would have been more powerful to have a blonde, white son who represents the better, younger, more innocent version of the villain.

I just don't think the casting helped achieve any dynamic.

Lucian Perez played the villain's son, he is not Asian. Makes sense as Pedro Pascal is from Chile, it is actually good casting.

No his mother is Chinese Asian

And why would him being Chilean make sense?

Many from Chile are of Spanish origin, not Chinese.

In that article it does say his mother's side is 100% Chinese BUT it also says "his dad’s side is a blend of European/Mexican/Native American".

His father is Angelo Perez. Perez is a surname of Spanish origin (so it fits with your comment that "Many from Chile are of Spanish origin"). It is considered a "patronymic surname" which indicates that the name is a "son of..."

In this case, interestingly enough, Perez means "son of PEDRO"

So it is pretty damn good casting to have an actor who has the last name of "Perez" to be playing the son of an actor named "Pedro".
