I was expecting something more than 80s fashion and cars for such a thought provoking title. I was also expecting a 1984 soundtrack.
So why set it in 84 if it had no real purpose?
i was duped into thinking the mall scene was an actual scene where some of the story takes place and then she uncovers a crime being committed and she stops it, i thought it would have been a longer scene in an 80s mall.
shareMaybe one reason was to go all out on this stupid homage to the Donner Superman era which apparently Patty was a huge fan of.
Which is nuts because while the Donner early superhero movies were charming they didn’t have the technology to put on screen what happened in the comic books so they had to go for charm and story. They basically wished they had today’s technology back then.
This movie decided to go back to the 80’s without making use of the available technology it has access to and as a result set back WW massively.
I mean that last fight with Wigg looked worse than a PS2 cutscene.
yes and SuperGirl was released in 84 so theres that link (Patty no doubt saw that movie a bunch of times when she was a 20 year old girl)

shareLeast someone in the trailer department had a deceptive idea and decided to fool the audience by putting some sort of 84 vibe with the music but the film had nothing to do with the 80's at all, never mind 1984.
shareThat's true the trailer was very 80s. Sometimes trailer makers have a better vision for a movie than the director and I think "they should consult with the trailer team to figure out what the story's selling point or dynamic is."

shareYou really don't need to explain that though. All the avengers have had major shit happen in standalone movies and usually get no help. Especially in this movie where all the craziness is happening in like 1 day.
shareRight away, joggers didn't wear leg warmers. Girls doing aerobics did. And those girls doing aerobics? They were NOT doing them in the middle of the floor in the mall. They got some 80s fashion correct or at least close enough in the mall scene but they missed a million opportunities for the broad and distinct fashion trends of the decade. They dropped the ball. It was like someone trying to piece together the 80s from a single time capsule 500 years from now. You'd think Patty wasn't around then.

But the mall is kind of randomly pasted in there to show people 'we're now in the 80's' Yes malls were big in the 80s and I myself spent lots of time there with my family. There was NO online shopping so it was either this or ordering through a LARGE catalog.
Disappointing that the mall itself is just used for random adornment. Wasted opportunity for what could have been (even in a pandemic) a blockbuster. I'm not at all optimistic about the prospects for a third film. I would not be surprised if Gadot...etc bolts.
