Where’s the attention?

If Beale Street Could Talk is probably the third best film of the year after A Star is Born and The Favourite. It has an 87 Metascore and has done OK with awards, but it has not received the attention Moonlight did and other films this year have. As was the case with Moonight (and Medicine for Melancholy), Barry Jenkins is in complete control of a very precise, very unique vision. I think Bradley Cooper, Yorgos Lanthimos, Barry Jenkins and Alfsono Cuaron boasted this year’s most impressive work directorally. It looks though like Jenkins isn’t going to be recognized for his direction by AMPAS and that the film may not even be a Best Picture nominee. This is a much better film than Vice and from what I understand, Bohemiam Rhapsody, which I haven’t seen yet but will. I know it’s far from an unsuccessful film, but I’m surprised it’s not more successful, especially with awards.
