why is this show getting so much hate online?

similar to anything new Star Trek, critics like it and fans can't stop talking how it sucks, making countless youtube videos how the show is failure. there are literally youtube channels calling Wokeman , are they even watching the show

reply

I'm four episodes in and really enjoying it. I can see why it's not for everyone, but I'm not going to get worried about a few people throwing their toys out the pram.

reply

People talk about the new Star Trek? It's not even available on paid cable. I haven't seen on episode because I refuse to pay for CBS

reply

It's on Netflix in every other country besides US

reply

Really? Then that explains how CBS has the funds to produce it and make some money. I personally don't know anyone who streams CBS and I have a lot of friends who prefer streaming to cable/Dish/Fios services.

reply

It's not on Netflix in New Zealand, rather it's on a channel called Soho which is the main premium cable tv channel, much like HBO in the US (indeed it carries most of the big HBO series, e.g. gems of Thrones, True Detective etc.). Nothing to do with Netflix.

reply

Stupidity. That's the reason for everything.

reply

I'm trying really hard to like it. Each episode is really well done, but it's not really coming together for me. I kind of need the various pieces of the narrative to start to become a more coherent whole.

reply

It is very much meant to be a mystery within a conspiracy and told with a style that almost requires you to understand the source material. The lead Protagonist POV is in search of the very clarity as the viewers which does make the series quite challenging to follow but the rewards of staying with the series (or any series similar) is quite worth it. The lead protagonist may not even find the answers that will befit the investment of our time but life doesn't offer such easy answers either.

You might very well be saying, "That's it?!" 😎

reply

That may not happen until the last episode, and there's no guarantee it'll be the kind of ending most viewers find satisfying. Only that it will probably be a solid one from the standpoint of the material.

Anyone who watches Westworld should have no trouble being patient with Watchmen for a few weeks. You just sit back and enjoy the ride, knowing it'll all make sense eventually, and have fun speculating in the meantime.

reply

I'm skeptical of this series because I'm so passionate about the original watchmen. It asked some deep philosophical questions and displayed moral ambiguity.

Writer Alan Moore was not involved in the series. The writer/director clearly has moral biases which are apparent in the series, although there is room for subversion, time will tell.

An aspect of the series which i've grown to hate is the constant callbacks and rehashing. Rather than doing something original it keeps repeating themes from the book. This is similar to JJ Abram's (Linelof's colleague's) treatment of Star Wars. The position of privelage that JJ Abrams and Lindelof find themselves in Hollywood (being that they are Jewish men) is particularly abrasive because Lindelof couldn't have greenlit such a series if it were not for his ethnic background and connections. Contrast this with Alan Moore's background, he's a non-Jew who came from a poor working family and did terrible jobs growing up until he displayed his talent (he worked in a slaughterhouse). Point is Alan Moore had to prove himself, Lindelof and his ilk rely on nepotism.

Abar is Silk Spectre rehashed, Laurie is her father (Comedian) rehashed, Lady Trieu is Ozymandias rehashed, Looking Glass is Rorschach rehashed. The worst part is each second you have to be painfully reminded that these characters are rehashes. Each line is a blaring siren screaming: Look at me, I'm a rehash! Not only does Looking Glass have to be a conservative anti-degeneracy conspiracy theorist, like Rorschach, but he also has to eat beans like Rorschach. Come on!

I hated all of Lindelof's previous works. He is a charlatan who must stand on the shoulders of giants. Him and JJ Abrams are made from the same cloth. Their original work "Lost" was absolute garbage, they must rehash franchises from the past (Star Wars, Star Trek and now Watchmen) in order to flex their privileged Hollywood muscles.

reply

Wow, nice going!

No need to look far, ladies and gentlemen, we have a white supremacist right here!

reply

Finally, the dumb reply award goes to @exatera. Good job, bro. Keep it up.

reply

This reaction says a lot more about you than it does about me.

The fact that you two think you can express such views publicly and actually expect people to agree says volumes.

reply

Your opinion of him is that he is a white supremacist so my opinion of you is that you are probably dumb.
The guy has a theory that you don't like, deal with it.

reply

I think you probably suffer from some extremely poor reading comprehension. Go and reread his comment, maybe you'll finally understand something.

But I am done wasting my time on the likes of you.

reply

I'm sorry you wasted my time also, drone.

Also I saw some comment where you called those that don't like the show stupid.
How about we change the narative of the first episode and see how it goes :
Instead of a black superhero beating white people we get to see :
- a Muslim superhero beating jews supremacists;
- a jew superhero beating Muslim supremascists;
- a turk superhero beating kurds supremacists and the reverse;
- a Uyghurs superhero beating chinese supremacists;
How about we set the show in South Africa and make a white girl superhero beat all those black supremacists.
That would be progressive wouldn't it.
Do you think this show gets grenlit in any one of those scenarios?

Don't bother commenting I already know the answer.

reply

Imagine thinking this wasn't the rambling nonsense of a diseased mind...

reply

Maybe in your double standard universe. In real life it is called critical thinking, something totally different from your drone behavior. You actually need some kind of brain, the ability to think for yourself and the ability to self reflect on your flaws to understand the concept.
You come of as a guy who in real life considers those who wronged him enemies, but when you do the wronging is just "colateral damage".
As I said a terrible person. No one likes your double standard kind.

Do any of those have any historical context you could point us to? Was there ever really a time when Black Supremacism was prevalent in South Africa? Where did the Jewish Supremacists ply their power and control, Germany?

reply

In South Africa it happens now.

https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/juliusmalema-tells-eff-supporters-we-want-white-people-to-be-our-domestic-workers-19496146

There are more demeaning quotes, but I didn't bother to search for them.

As I said a white girl superhero fighting all this black supremacists in South Africa doesn't sound so bad anymore does it? We can call it watchmen 3

I didn't said anything about jews and Germany.

As I said maybe lindelof, next time, can make a show about a Palestinian woman superhero, who fights jew supremacists, in Israel and call that show watchmen 2.

Or we can put this sh*t politics to bed and make a show that caters to all audiences and call it watchmen.
We have this option which is the smart one.

reply

Jesus Christ man. You need to check your anti-Semitic views. Lindelof success has nothing to do with nepotism or being Jewish. He also came from a fairly middle-class background. You seem to a have giant chip on your shoulder about Jews.

reply

It's much easier to believe that there is some kind of Jewish conspiracy in the world than to accept that you didn't succeed because of your own deficiencies.

reply

Aint that the truth. It's a story old as time.

reply

How about lindelof checks his anti-white racist views when making a show about watchmen that didn't had anything to do with the issue or that isn't so progressive right now.
How about for his next show he makes a Palestinian woman superhero beat some jew supremacists in Israel, to show us he doesn't have some double standard and how enlightened he is.

reply

Just keep digging that hole bro...

reply

If that's your world class answer I am just going to assume that your not smart enough to provide any.

I'm sorry you wasted my time, drone.

reply

You really need to let go of all that hate. You'll feel better about yourself. Sometimes taking a long introspective look at oneself is hard, but it can yield amazing results.

reply

You must be some unlikeble person in real life with all this double standard that you cary with you all the time. Reflect on that, drone.

reply

Whereas you with all your hatred and hostility are just Mr. Congeniality!

This is just too precious.

reply

Says the guy who considers all those that don't like this political sh*t stupid. Maybe you should look in the mirror before you share all your wisdom with us mere mortals.

reply

"Exatera" sounds like a rather feminine username, no?

Like I can say anything you say seriously when you can't even read or write...

reply

So you want a medal because your female?
G1102 sounds transgender so how can I take you seriously when you don't even address me properly.
Please correct your last sentence before you superiorly tell me how I don't know how to read and write.

reply

Finally someone speaks the truth.

reply

Because they turned arguably the greatest graphic novel of all times into something rather mediocre.

reply

Right wingers throwing a tantrum because it's not white and shallow.

reply

Good response, racist.
Now tell us what you have against white people and why you find them shallow.
Lindelof should make a show about a native South American superhero, beating all those Latino supremacists in Argentina and call it watchmen too.
That would be great.
Think about the ratings. Every Argentinian would get behind it. It's almost like seeing a documentary about the Falkland islands war every week.

reply

More nonsense and delusional thinking. He didn't say white people were shallow. He said people were throwing a tantrum because its not white and shallow.

reply

So if I say the show is "black and shallow" I am a racist, but if you say is "white and shallow" it is not?
Still going with the double standard I see. As I said, a terrible person in real life.
Still waiting to acknowledge that you aren't smart enough to see all the analogys I put forth.
Some of your peers probably recognized where I am heading with this, but you are just thick in the head.

What does a white show even mean?
There are TV shows that have people in it. Since when does skin matter.
By your double standard should I consider the madea movies "black movies"? Can I say that those are "black and shallow"? By your double standard I can't because that would mean I am a racist.

reply

Ok, I'll concede. It's obvious to everyone you are a genius.

reply

You should have done that from my first reply.
That drone circuitry finally overloaded with all that thinking.

reply

He's a troll looking for a reaction. No one actually talks like him in real life.

reply

Do you feel personally attacked by this show and its fans? Why is that?

reply

Nope. Just wanted to point out your double standard.
So how about it? Do you like my idea with the native South American superhero, that fights those Latino supremacists in Argentina?
We can call it watchmen 4.

When you got nothing to say on the matter just call the person a troll.

Also what's with the racism against white people?

You, the other guy and exatera are perfect examples of how not to be in life. Full of double standards to the core. One thinks she's a good person, but calls those that don't like this political show, stupid. You know what others like, all the while showing your inner racism, while the other guy simply doesn't understand the concept of double standard.

I am just showing you the mirror so you can admire yourselfs in your full splendor.

reply

I've been enjoying the mystery, but I don't see why critics liking it should be a metric for, well, anything. They're just the same as those people who rant or rave about stuff online but get paid for it.

As for Star Trek, I can't say it's something I've been particularly interested in seeing. This reminds me that its "competitor" The Orville, was pretty well recieved by fans while being panned by critics.
Just something that happens, lol. Follow the money, I guess.
