So far no African-Americans hold any roles of leadership or Authority?

Two episodes in and Henry Louis Gates, Jr is the only African-American (and I don't think the series has ever even used that term to define descendants of slaves from Africa) in some role as an authority figure.

Police Chief Judd Crawford
Most of the Detectives/Vigilantes are white (Looking Glass, Red Scare, Pirate Jenny). (Angela is the exception, Sister Night)
Dr. at Hospital
Teacher at the school
Senator Keane
At the Crawford household there doesn't appear to be any African-Americans milling about.

Am I missing something or am I seeing something that is or isn't there?
