Watch it with your son

This is basically a television "movie of the week" type film from back in the day prior to ten zillion streaming channel options. If you have a young son (7-14 say) then you couldn't find a better film about the importance of family, perseverance, work ethic, and overcoming adversity. These positive messages are imparted in a realistic, non-sentimental manner, even if it has a slight Disney feel and is entirely predictable. The primary characters are neither angelic or caricatures of evil like you would get in a standard Hollywood sports film. It's very much a baseball movie, so it will help if your son (or daughter) likes and plays the game, but the positive messages transcend baseball specifically. I wish there were more films like this targeted toward boys and their fathers.
