Oh my god this is a slog

I'm probably 20 minutes in or so...and the length of these shots? This looks like a movie that could have been a short story instead.
Maybe I just don't have an eye for art, but too many shots to list where just...nothing at all happens. We spend what, a good thirty seconds? Watching Mandy stare into oblivion...another scene where it was just darkness for so long that I literally checked my HDMI connection. My buddy recommended this, so...apparently it picks up after the first bit here, but I can't do anything with this movie out of principle aside from talk shit.

Sorry, just...you've got to be kidding me here. Shoot, I'd happily watch absolutely nothing happening on screen...for the sake of tension building...some reaction shot to a horror that's yet to be revealed to the audience, the music building in the background, all that. But this is just nothing for the sake of being nothing...and nothing is not art, its just someone yanking themselves behind the camera IMO.

Some director wanted to get 'arthouse' and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here slack-jawed, slogging through some pretentious douche's masturbation session in hopes of being entertained at some point along the way here.
There's not enough time in the world to watch all the good programming/movies out there, no reason to be held hostage here, fuck off Director guy, two middle fingers up, way up =P

Many of the greatest horror movies ever are exactly like this because they build tension and allow the director to be artistic. If I were you I'd avoid movies like Nosferatu The Vampyre or The Shining and maybe even Jaws and stick with more action oriented jump scare types. Before watching a movie check out the director on IMDB and see if they have filmed any music videos and if so you should be good. Ok I'm trolling a bit.

reply

Lol that was good...fuck you!
What's funny is that I don't even remember posting this...I guess I gave it about thirty minutes, got pissed and ranted on out of it entirely.
Anyway, what I described up there is a far cry from needing continually bombarded with stuff, sounds like this was a whole lot of long shots of...establishing atmosphere, maybe? But apparently it was a decent movie, huh? Bastard...

I also suggest staying away from auteur films and actually well crafted and directed movies that are slow burners like 28 days later, Alien, blade runner etc

You are probably best sticking with films like transformers and Arnold 80s action movies that dont require much thinking or a long attention span ;)

You both know he's right, this movie has horrendous pacing, especially at the beginning, pretty much nothing at all happens until like 21 minutes in

reply

True. The first half was a drag.

What kind of people go write about a movie after watching just 20 minutes of it?? Stupid and entitled people.

You don't like it? Turn it off and don't ever talk about it.

You don't have the moral right to "critic" a movie unless you've seen it. Not 20 minutes of it. All of it.

Just shut up, man, nobody wants to know your opinion.

(The first hour was magnificent, even better than the revenge part.)

reply

You`re a slog. The movie is awesome.

The direction and the camera work were meant to convey a sense of being high and really out of it…it was a drug trip horror show with fantastic visuals

I thought it was pretty great and I enjoyed the cast and soundtrack quite a lot!

Anytime Nic Cage gets to go full-on Nic Cage, screaming, smashing stuff and attacking people is a thing of glory

I defy you to find any movie more intense than a Nic Cage movie featuring a chainsaw fight…Nicholas Cage in a chainsaw fight is about as intensely weird as a movie can get
