The "two fathers" crap was very low key, as in it wasn't made a big point of, outside of her mentioning "my fathers" a couple times, and then they had to throw in a quick scene of her "two dads" holding hands when they left their home.
But it really did stink of so-called "Wokeness", or SJW type mentality, which I was disappointed by. It was forgettable, and didn't ruin the whole show for me by any means. However, it was completely pointless to throw in. It was literally throwing it in to throw it in, to be "topical" and "inclusive" of our modern era. The thing is...these aren't humans we're dealing with. These are GELFLINGS, made up little elf/fairy people, in a made up fantasy world. Projecting Hollywood's current obsession with everything LGBT and "Diversity", on non-human creatures in a non-Earth planet, is silly as hell. Assuming that Gelflings have gay and lesbian people in their society just like humans do, is the worst kind of human conceit, and besides the fact, as already stated, it was totally pointless to throw in. Not to mention, where's her and her brother's mom? There still needs to be a mom for kids to happen, even with Gelflings. It was just nonsensical inclusion.
Deet having "Two Dads" added absolutely nothing of any meaningful substance to the story, let alone even her character. There was no history of context, it was just a quick wink and nod to the audience "SEE WE HAVE LGBT COVERED". As if they needed to be represented in ALL things, which of course they don't. If it's organic, if it fits and makes sense, then fire away. But throwing "diversity" and modern Earth issues into a 30 year old fantasy story, is incredibly pointless and excessive.
Deet the character is great. She was actually my favorite Gelfling. And like I said, the "my two dads" thing was completely throwaway and forgettable. But it IS still annoying in a small, surface way, that someone in the production just HAD to throw that in there.
