Julianne Moore

She was great in this movie. She managed to turn a movie that might have been a bit slow and predictable into a movie that was enjoyable to watch. The character under Julianne's acting skill really drew me into the movie and John Turturro was a great complement. The music and dance scenes added an air of optimism and made you root for her to have a happy ending. Julianne ably showed how life changes are not always controllable but music can be a great escape.
Overall, anything she acts in is usually a winner.

Her acting was nice but the film itself was a promise unfulfilled.

Not everything she acts in is usually a winner, but when the script is right and Julianne is bringing her A game, she's one of the best around. She's got a few stinkers and not good acting performances in her C.V, Non Stop, Carrie, The Lost World, The Forgotten, Law of Attraction, Seventh Son and a few others.

But when she has Still Alice, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, The Hours, The Kids are Alright, Maps To The Stars, Magnolia, A Single Man, Short Cuts, Children of Men, Safe, Vanya on 42nd Street, An Ideal Husband (one of her underrated gems) under her belt. She's one of the best actresses around.
