America still considers itself as the whole ‘world’ to this day.
Super Bowl champions call themselves ‘World Champions’ even though only American teams participate.
The ‘World Series’ is contested by American baseball teams.
Etc etc.

The interesting thing (to me anyways), is the HUMAN predilection to calling oneself the "World Champs" of any given sport, not just football or baseball. But I am sure that every winning team all across the globe have called themselves "The World's best" at one time or another. It isn't just American ... It is Human.
shareI don’t think so.
In Europe there are many many different football leagues, and the best teams in each league play each other in the Champion’s League the following season.
When the eventual winner of the competition lifts the trophy, aka the best team in Europe, they never call themselves ‘World Champions’
The USA women's football team are actual world champions, they won the world cup. But nobody in America seems to care.
Your opinion and you are entitled to it, but I do not agree, as is my opinion. As you will note in my original post, I said human. We all tend to want to be considered the best at something. It is human nature.
shareI didn't know that "America" was actually a self-aware and sentient being.
shareYes, we do consider this nation as the world. We are the best nation in the history of mankind. We start trends that others follow. We are the GREATEST ever! You mess with the best, you will die like the rest.
