Boring! Just a retread of better Westerns

If you've seen The Searchers, Outlaw of Josey Wales, Stage Coach etc., you've seen this movie already and done a lot better. Very boring and slow story that was super predictable. I like Tom Hanks, but he sleptwalk his way through this and his character had no depth at all. There was also very forced and random attempts to make the story more relevant with racism at the time that added nothing to the story and came out of nowhere. Can't believe this actually got good reviews. I'd give it a 3/10.

It was a little slow, but still good. I would give it an 8/10.

There was some action in the movie but it wasn't Tombstone or anything in the Clint Eastwood pantheon. The time period mostly allowed for story elements that would be implausible in the present day. Nothing especially groundbreaking, just the heartwarming story of a man and a little girl whose lives were shattered, but found each other and became a family. If you're in the mood for something along those lines you'll enjoy it.

I wonder why Hollywood avoids making more movies about Lewis & Clark "Far Horizons" which I think was mediocre is the only high profile movie made of that story. Everything else has been PBS documentaries.

EVERYONE KNOWS EDWARDS & HUNT BEAT LEWIS & CLARK.WHY MAKE MOVIES ABOUT THE LOSERS?🤔

reply

Tom Hanks could never carry Clint Eastwood's holster.

I'm a huge Western fan. I watch Wagon Train every day. This movie sucked. It was gorgeous. But that's it. The bit where Tom reads the news was cool. But that was literally two tiny scenes in a three hour movie. Sure felt like three hours anyhow.

reply

I agree. It felt an hour longer than it actually was.

reply

Agree, very ordinary movie. Without Hanks would have been a B Movie.

So, racism didn't exist back then? It should have been ignored so it didn't hurt your sensitivities?

The writers actually whitewashed history. The characters never say the N word. It pissed me off how they said "blacks". Now *that's* PC.
