My review

The house of flying daggers is one of my all-time favourite movies so I was happy to watch this one. I wasn’t too fond of the dark greyish colour of the movie, even the costumes melted in the somber settings but some scenes were still beautiful to watch. There is barely any action in the first hour and although the story was thrilling and played by great actors it could’ve moved along at a quicker pace. Once we get through the schemings, the talking, the training, the romance, the practicing, we finally get the final twists, both of which I saw coming a mile away. I might sound a bit arsh but, like I said, I had high hopes for this honest flick. ( I mean, it has a tomatometer of 94%!) my rating: 6/10

I like this one and I particularly liked the grey-toned cinematography with the misty backdrops. I often find these Chinese historic/legend based stories a bit confusing but the slower build and the very good acting and the less shouty approach established all the characters and their motivations and I found something a little Shakespearean in the story.
I think I particularly liked this film for all the reasons the OP didn't and it'll be one I'll watch repeatedly - 8/10 for me.
