The kid was so annoying he almost ruined the movie

Why did the writers feel like they needed so badly for the kid to act like a girl. It was so cringy and annoying. Especially that the kid couldn't understand why playing with dolls or wearing a dress would get him made fun of.

Dude, it's his first film and he was really good in it.

I would think for this very reason, numerous people would never admit to their friends that they've seen this film. lol

However, in this movie's defense, I will say it's not too bad really, it's pretty good. However, this story has been done numerous times but the big difference in this one is an effeminate boy is the friend of the former prisoner, rather than getting mixed up with criminals like in other movies with a similar plot.

That being said, I don't think I can give it a very high rating. I mean, the directing is pretty good. When you stop and think about it, taking this type of story and translate it to film and then make it entertaining is quite the accomplishment. Timberlake's acting is also well above average but the overall message the movie is trying to convey falls a little short in my view.

We never get the sense that staying with Palmer really is in the kid's best interest and we're somewhat left hanging yet we were supposed to be cheering at the end. ***END SPOILER***

LGBT fans would probably really like this movie though. I'll give it a 6.1 out of 10. It definitely reminds me of that movie The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things but maybe not as good.
