hands across America?..

I didn't understand the point of that line of clones.

Adelaide was watching a commercial about Hands Across America before she went to the beach and got switched with her clone. Since it was one of her last memories of the normal world that must have motivated her to do something similar.

How did she teach those clone idiots how to hold hands across the continent, especially since the version who is underground isn't free to move on their own if the other one is above the ground?

reply

No idea. I just remember her watching the commercial at the beginning which I assume was her inspiration for doing it. I have no idea how she organized it or what purpose she thought it would serve.

One of life's mysteries lol. Most of the movie doesn't make sense and/or straight up unfeasible anyways.

^^^ this. But, it was just entertaining as is.

Agreed on what Grimace has said. To elaborate, I think her motive for doing it is yes, a childhood memory, she's sad she missed out, was a huge cool thing back then, so she wanted to recreate so she could participate. Beyond that, what a bold and creepy way to announce on a large scale "We're here!" Would definitely intimidate. As for the other Tethered. She had decades to orchestrate this, and it was probably easy to get them to obey. She probably dumbed down her communication, and they as long as she treats them well, they probably don't care about the why, only the what and the how. As for the how, we don't know how many portals they have scattered across the lands. As for the real Red, I think she kept her secret for the obvious reason that she's adapted and has a better life up here, that she had stolen and intended to keep.

Seems to me that Adelaide, being a non-tethered human, developed the control necessary to lead the tethered in rebellion.

But being insane after years underground, she got them to replace their counterparts and “finish the job” that was stuck in Adelaide’s mind, that being “Hands Across America.”

I also got the impression that she wanted to succeed where fhose above ground failed. Hands Across America was a failure for the most part, with huge stretches of the chain left incomplete.
