Spoiler question on missed dialogue

When the doppelganger was at the chalkboard explaining the fun house meeting from 1986, I couldn't make out some of the dialogue. She said something about 'body without a soul' and 'that's when I saw god', but did she say anything else with regard to how/why the doppelgangers were created? Her throaty speech made some of it hard to decipher...

She says "It was humans that built this place. They created the tethered so they could use them to control the ones above like puppets. But they failed and they abandoned the tethered. For generations the tethered continued without direction. They all went mad down here."

That's the only scrap of information the film gives you about why the doppelgangers were created.
