So David Dunn, he who has bullets bounce off him, can bend steel and bench press 800 lbs feebly allows 1 normal random man to drown him in a puddle?! Hahaha. Get the hell outta here. THAT is how the hero meets his demise? That feebly? Ridiculous. Ruined the movie.

shareYou could see his strength was fading. He could barely break an already-cracked plastic tub after having smashed through a reinforced steel door. Also notice, he was dying. He *couldn't* fight back against the Beast. All he could do was use his last bit of strength to break the container. The best analogy really is Kryptonite and Super-Man. He's all-powerful until exposed to it. Then he becomes utterly helpless, and even a frail human can easily kill him.

shareThat wasn't an already cracked weak plastic tub. It had just been installed for the water system to his room so it would have been new. The other problem is sure it was difficult to break the plastic when he was in the water but that's because you can't move nearly as fast in water so any punch he made was going to be slowed down enormously. The OP is right, it made no sense. Especially since he was out of the water and the SWAT guy just pushes him down again. As soon as he got out of the water he should have been unbreakable again or at the very least back to the strength of a normal human. If simply having the water on him was making him weak as a kitten then how did he ever take a shower? He would have died in the shower if water simply being on him was as toxic as they wanted it to be in the end of the movie.

a splash of water, or a drink, or even a shower doesn't really matter. It's DROWNING that is his weakness, because of the childhood incident where he nearly died by drowning. When he's submerged and/or held underwater he becomes nearly paralyzed with fear and weakness.

A tiny amount of kyptonite would disable Superman.
A person can easily hold their breath for over a minute - that is more than enough time to stand up in a 1m deep backyard swimming pool ala Unbreakable.
Not to mention that his cell is armed with water jets as a deterrent - hard to see how this could activate a risk of drowning weakness?
Much like when kryptonite is removed from close proximity to Superman and he becomes powerful again - removing Dunn from a drowning situation should reinstate his powers if that was his real weakness. We see from this film that this is not the case and he is easily and stupidly drowned in a puddle ...
So Kryptonite is not the perfect analogy. And wasn't the cell rigged to fill with water?
My takeaway is that from what we saw in Unbreakable and Glass, being submerged in water negates his powers and leaves him weaker than a normal human-- sort of a reversal from unbreakable to fragile. After being choked and pummeled while submerged, he was too weak to lift himself up, let alone resist the force pressing his face into the pool of water.
I have no issues with the character being killed off - I just think that it should have been handled in a better way.

While it didn't break any of the rules that had been set regarding Dunn's powers, it was a disappointing and anticlimactic finish to his character's arc. Maybe that was the point-- an ignominious end rather than going out in a blaze of glory a la most superhero deaths-- but I wanted more. Something that just came to mind is the end to the much-criticized second season of True Detective. Say what you will about it, I enjoyed that season, and I felt that while the main characters were also given a Dunn-like ending, it was handled in a far more powerful fashion.

The only problem I had with the ending was its revealing the existence of an anti-superhero society. That could have been the basis for another Unbreakable movie.
I think MNS wanted to wrap up the trilogy. He won't want to make any more so took out the trio .
shareI didn't mind the anti-superhero society. He needed to add another "element" into the story to keep it from going stale.
And while I didn't like seeing David die, I did like how the ending allowed the original three to "triumph" over the conspiracy. The fact that it was primarily due to Elijah's mastermind planning justified the movie's title.
It also wrapped up the trilogy as a standalone set of films - one title per "hero," all three wind up dead, but they manage to triumph regardless.
It absolutely was the basis for a sequel. The Doc was even going to a new city to try to deprogram more metas/mutants. Letting the video go viral sort of watered down that sequel op though.

shareWell i guess so, because it was well established in unbreakable that water was his weakness, in his childhood and near the end. In this film he was weakened in the cell when they sprayed him and in the big water container outside. Its the equivalent of whent hey hung a kryptonite necklace around supermans neck in the 1978 film.
shareI am ok with Dunn's demise and understand his vulnerability but I feel like they did it in a cheap fashion. I love Night but this was a moment of week directing. Dunn's son is right there and even though our hero is conscious enough to listen, he cannot move at all? Should have had three guys holding him or he is completely unconscious.
Still, though, I loved the movie. Dunn's death was slightly mishandled and the final train station scene was weak but those are my only tiny complaints. 9/10
