I firmly believe it was a hallucination given his exhaustion and mental state. Thoughts?

No. Why do people make stuff like this up. A movie that relies on fake hallucinations is a crappy movie.

I disagree. I believe it was real, but it was annoying, because it was kind of left open. Directors nowadays seem to get a perverse pleasure from ambiguous endings. I used to like them, but they're beginning to become tiresome. Just tell us what the fuck happened!

What the fuck happened was only about few minute later in the scene. You would see Mads and the girl being strapped into the helicopter and flown away.
