Why can they see the goats away from the house?

Ok I couldn’t sleep last night after watching this final a few things I don’t get, if the house is where the ghosts stay and so important not to destroy it, because it’s where the ghosts stay forever. why did Steve see the ghost of nelly at home?? Why did she show up in the car? What was with the ghosts at the funeral, or when the mum tried to bring Luke in. (I get it as symbolism) but why did they even see the ghosts away from the house?

I've been quite irritated about the goats ;) but I'm assuming that the family had been in a way infected and thus connected to the house and its "inhabitants", so the ghosts could still "communicate" with them.

look, sometimes theres just not enough grass near the house so the goats have to go a little further to find it, its not a plot hole or anything

They been in the red room (all the children atleast, the dad too?). So the house already 'ate' part of them. They were all possessed in a small way? Or maybe the ghosts just programmed the images in their brain to see them at certain times. Time doesnt exists for the ghosts in a linear way, cant say more without spoilers but watch the Nellie episode
