Oh my God that ending

Why kill the pops though?!?!?!

reply

It has to do with two things:
the smell, which indicated the belonging of the poor family, and crossing the line.

The driver concluded a few times to Mr. Park that he really loved his wife. For Mr. Park it was entering his private territory, which he could not accept from a servant, because he thought of himself to be the upper class. At the party Mr. Park told the driver to do his job, which he was paid for. He didn't want to get close to him on a human level.

When the killing happened, the driver was grieving about his daughter, and Mr. Park didn't care about her, and only wanted to save himself and his son. While it's right for the father, he should have thought of taking the wounded girl to the hospital as a human being, or saving others, but not running away. He didn't ask to drive him away, but rather demanded the keys from the driver, leaving everyone behind, and was disgusted by the smell.

In this critical situation he didn't care about his manners and showed his arrogance and ignorance. He still considered himself to be supreme. The driver lost his daughter and decided not to let the rich guy get away. He assumed the role of God and killed him.

So the main parasite (Mr Kim, the driver) eventually kills his host, Mr. Park. It refers to the title of this film, "Parasite".

reply

Good reply but still doesn't justify murder. The man really helped him.

reply

I agree, Mr Park helped Mr Kim by giving him a job, but once Mr Park was willing to let Mr Kim's daughter bleed out to death, Mr Kim snapped, and basically crossed the lines of sanity. It was definitely a crime of passion, and not justified in any way. But, this is "why" he did it, not whether or not he was in the right. :-)

reply

I saw that moment as a very rational reaction of mr Kim who would do anything to protect his family.

reply

Mr.Park also would do anything to protect his family, including abandoning the "art teacher" bleeding to death.

reply

Of course, but that wasn’t my point.

reply

I interpreted the smell as coming from the killer - after few days in it's own blood and probably not only blood, not the driver.

He killed Mr Park to take attention away from his family, he was never identified as the head of the parasite family.

reply

An excellent analysis, fzane! And an excellent film, I give it an 8.5/10.

😎

reply

This is minor tick, but Mr. Kim didn't assume the role of God. He just went bonkers in a fit of rage and killed Park. When you say someone assumed the role of God or judge, jury, and executioner, it means there is some kind of mock trial.

While we know what Mr. and Mrs. Park thought about their driver and his smell, Kim doesn't know about the Parks. Thus, he ends up crossing the line and I think they were going to eventually fire him.

You're right about Park and taking the wounded girl to the hospital. It was inexcusable of him to just leave someone who needed help behind. That made him a parasite. It's the parable of the Lazarus and the Rich Man from the Bible.

My main point is the movie makes you think who the main parasite is at the end of the film.

reply

He did ask to drive him away, but when he saw Kim wouldnt do it he asked for the keys. He wanted to leave the daughter to bleed to death. He can always just hire another.

reply

Um....you might want to put a "Spoiler Alert" on your post if you're going to divulge a major plot point. Get with the program, dude!

😎

reply

Why the f... would you open a thread titled "Oh my God that ending" if you haven't seen the movie???

reply

I don't know. You would have to ask the OP. I mentioned to him that he should have included a spoiler alert.

😎

reply

He was asking YOU, why would you open as in open to read a thread with that title :D

reply

Cause I had already seen the movie. I was suggesting that he not to fuck it up for people who had not
seen it. Duh.

😎

reply

People that who had NOT seen the movie should NOT read a thread about the ending.

DUH.

reply

Precisely! Just because he mentions the ending does NOT necessarily mean he's going to spoil it. But since he did, he needs to add a "Spoiler Alert" to the title. DUH!

😎

reply

So, someone that haven't seen the movie ... sees the thread with a name like "oh my god that ending" and the first thing is to click it?

I would stay away of it, doesn't matter if it has "spoiler alert" or "spoiler free" alert. Because ANYTHING related to the ending WILL spoil it. Even just saying "whoa, that twist".

reply

Well aren't you special! We should all try to be just like you.

😎

reply

It's called common sense.

reply

If you're referring to adding a spoiler alert, yes.

😎

reply

i disagree with MovieMan. This thread is obviously going to talk about the ending so no need for the literal words "spoiler alert". It is implied. don't click unless you want to know what happens or you have seen the movie.

reply

You have a point orange, but I still think a spoiler alert is in order. Call me kooky.

😎

reply

ha, alright kooky

cool flick though

reply

lol

reply

Do you know the definition of insanity?

reply

Yes. Do you, La'Shaunda?

😎

reply

It appears that you indeed know insanity as you are a great example of it.

reply

Are you always this stupid, or is today a special occasion, butt head?

😎

reply

you should not have mentioned it as it makes no sense to put a spoiler alert in a thread whose title is a spoiler alert on a forum discussion which cannot happen without there being spoilers to begin with. You are aware there will be spoilers by merely going to this website, no further alerts are needed.

reply

Okay then, La'Kisha.

😎

reply

Your a dick. Talking about an ending is a spoiler. Anyone with an ounce of common sense will know this and not read this thread before watching the movie. You just had to be a dick and crave attention with your comment. Can’t stand trolls like you.

reply

And you're a moron and a jackass! The word you wanted there was "You're", idiot!

😎

reply

He was triggered by pops not liking smelly people.

reply

But not liking smelly people is... normal?

reply

Well, it was also the taunting from his wife earlier in the movie when she says he's like a cockroach or whatever/couldn't stand up to the rich family. He wanted to prove himself

reply

It's the context of the moment. The wife had made a comment, earlier in the film, about how you needed to get children that have had a seizure to the hospital within 15 minutes. Despite this being what the family believed, Mr. Park still took the time to put on a show for the remaining party guests by grabbing his nose as he went for the keys; combined with the fact that he was running down the father about his smell, earlier in the film, while the father was trapped under the table with his children, hearing everything. That shame combined with Mr. Park's arrogance in, what is supposed to be, a life or death situation was enough to make the father snap.

reply

Yeah, I now understand what the film was trying to say / portray. It's just not very convincing to me. Is there really a person that would theatrically pinch his nose while in such dramatic life and death situation? Felt like too exaggerated. I'd assume most people would just hold their breath for a second. It weakens the whole ending scenes, at least to me personally. Idk, maybe for Koreans they would percieve it differently.

reply

I see where you're coming from. It connected with me, personally. I'm from the American south, and I've definitely known some "old south" type of people, particularly "old south" women, that I could easily see acting this way if their "friends" were watching. Around here, it would be much less common in a man like Mr. Park, rather than his wife, but I can't really speak for, or even guess, how Korean's might perceive it.

reply

I’m sure there’s a deeper explanation, but my take on it is he was already aware of his class/status compared to his boss, so he had his insecurities, then he overheard Mr. Park talk about his smell, which added insult to the injury. Coming from their flooded home, then being invited the next day to a lavish child’s birthday party, just the stark difference between lifestyles. And Mr. Park not caring about his daughter in the end. Just all the craziness of the last 24 hours and all the stress and adrenaline that came with it made him snap.

reply

The man that was living under the house, was in somehow, respectful of Mr. Park, he treated him like a king, he speaked of him in the same manner, and also he switched the lights of the staircase every single time for him
The fact that Mr. Park did that with his nose, was the final straw for the father, it just was too much impotency for his situation in the low part of the social scale vs the upper scale, like others had said he snapped

reply

another question:Why did the husband of the housekeeper run streight out of the basement to kill the daughter? why didn't he kill Mr. Park? or The Father of the Kims? Was it just random killing or why exactly the daughter?

reply

The parents were hiding behind the bushes!

reply

He wanted to kill the new housekeeper and her family for getting his wife fired and killed. He "respected" the park family for feeding him and did not want to hurt them.
