Is this a remake from the 80's?

I seem to recall a movie with ... maybe Kevin Costner .. with the same name and a similar plot ... is this a remake of that?

At one point it was but then after a few briefings and deliberations, they changed a few things and now it is no longer a remake but instead, a reimagining, if you will.

Do you have a link or something where anyone who worked on the film says this? Everything I've read on IMDb, Wikipedia, etc. makes no mention of the two films ever being related in any way other than the title.

I myself worked on the film and have first hand knowledge. I have a few early drafts of the original script that was more in line with the original.

The plot and the dry, barren setting are reminiscent of the Aussie rape & revenge ‘Fair Game’, but it’s by no means a remake of that film
