Only movie EVER I walked out of

Stupid pretentious movie. Totally no idea what the f*ck was going on. Subtitles are an absolute necessity. The dark fella was miscast. Can't act. Expressionless.

I want to watch a movie to relax after a day of hard work. The movie itself should not be hard work but nolan movies always are and nolan is always doing the same time travel shit in all of his movies. I'd literally rather watch paint dry then watch tenet again (well, half of it anyway, that's when I walked out).

Everyone abuses the word "pretentious". It's basic definition makes every movie on the planet "pretentious".

It's interesting to me that while many people had no idea what was going on, many other people followed it effortlessly. I followed everything fine, although it took brain effort. Missed one explanation near the ending that I didnt track, but next time I saw it I heard what I missed. The dialog audio is mixed poorly, so I will give you that, but the movie was entertaining, and quite sophisticatedly strung together.

I'm offended by all the brain dead movies out there that spoon feed all audiences like we are 5 year old morons, but I don't dump on those movies the way people dump on these types of movies that go over people's heads.

Nothing "pretentious" about it: "adjective, attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed". EVERY movie's universe makes everything in its universe of the greatest importance. Or there would be no reason to watch the actions inside the movie presentation. TENET was outside the normal box, and very impressive is twisting "movie TIME" in a way that we got to experience something never done before.

I don't think I've ever seen anything more pretentious than your reply to a movie-opinion.

Lol, spot on.

Hahaha, good one :D

Lol, so true.

I'm no defender of his recent works, but still I wonder, why did you go to see it if you knew Nolan's movies?

reply

'Cos there's fuck all else in the cinema.

reply

You go to watch a movie you know you won't like, and then wonder why you don't like it?

reply

Friends invited me, I knew nothing about the movie apart from that it was some action movie, which sounded good. Had I known it was a nolan movie I would have rather have my fingernails pulled out than watch that garbage.

reply

Not all Nolan films are as bad as this or Inception, see his earlier works.

reply

Yes, I had the same experience. It felt like I put my head inside the microwave :) Really difficult to understand what is going on. Anyway I pulled it through intil the end and I understood the basic idea behind it. It twisted my brain really hard :)

Indeed. Where I live about every single commercial on the telly involves some mixed couple, and by that I mean a black dude and a white chick. Nothing wrong with that per se but it's never a white dude with a black chick and this whole multiculturalism thing is soooo shoved down our throats, I hate it. And because of sh*t like that I get laid less often because slowly women are getting the impression that unless they are with a black fella there's something wrong with them.

reply

[deleted]

Can't argue with that.

reply

You're so full of shit. I lovelovelove sniffing out the bullshitters, I love it!

reply

White supremacist incel.

he is ugly af.

reply

Absolutely pathetic.

It's not that hard to understand the idea even if you miss elements. That's the problem with this movie actually, seems to be "complex" just because the details are not very easy to be coupled togethers.

Like a puzzle with thousands of elements: even if you miss 100 elements you still know what the big picture is.

reply

I don't go to the movies to solve a puzzle, I go there to be entertained. Plot holes or things that are unclear are distracting and take away from the entertainment. nolan movies have no entertainment value. You need a notebook, a remote to pause the movie, draw story lines and connections between characters, confer with others, and continue watching once you think you understand what's going on. That's torture. I would literally rather watch paint dry than watch another pretentious nolan movie.

A nolan movie is like a piece of modern art: it looks like nothing, but there's a group of 'connoisseurs' who claim to understand it and they feel superior because of it. It's sad really. It's a lack of confidence really that drives people to claim they like nolan movies.

reply

the only really good Nolan movie is Interstellar. its just a good enjoyable movie and has some exposition at least...

reply

No movie with anne hatheway can be a good movie.

reply

Generalizations make you look ignorant. Also why is a mind bending film exclusive to Nolan? Films like these have been around long before he ever touched a camera. Like I said just because you dislike those films doesn't mean everyone who likes them is a snob. Your ignorance is dismissed.

reply

Unless she's naked.

reply

No everyone goes to a film for simple entertainment. You do which is fine but sometimes we like to use our brain and actually be challenged. Don't like it simple don't watch it.

reply

I use my brain for a living. I use it to solve problems. tenet is a problem that can not be solved. It's a train wreck, an utter disaster. It's for snobs who want others to think they're clever because they went to a nolan movie and say they understood it.

reply

A generalization made by you. There are those that like challenging films that don't care if others view them as clever or not. I like Memento because it's a great movie not because it has Nolan's name attached to it or to make me seem smart.

reply

I love generalizations. We all do. Yup, that was another one.

reply

can not be solved..... by you? Many of us got in on first take, and that is not some snob remark. There are a lot of movies that aren't for some people, I guess this one is not for you.

But don't tell us it can not be solved. Pretty sure 99% works fine, besides the dodgy phsyics - which EVERY out there movies abuses.

Ok, so, YOU don't like puzzle films. That's fine. But this movie is tight whether you approve or not.

reply

I've seen movies with Ron Jeremy that were MUCH tighter.

reply

Accusing the right honorable Ron Jeremy of performing in gay porn. You're delusional.

"I don't go to the movies to solve a puzzle, I go there to be entertained."
Some of us are entertained by puzzles. Just because you're not doesn't mean we're faking it to "feel superior".

reply

i knew it was typical nolan nonsense after watching the trailer and it delievered. the modern audience thinks its clever when a movie makes no sense.

reply

Exactly. The modern audience is like the snobs who say they love modern art, they'd rather praise it as fabulous than admit they too don't have a clue what the f it's supposed to be.

reply

if you'd like, I will break the entire plot down to a few sentences that ties it all together

reply

Thanks, but no, thanks.

reply

ok great! Here we go:

atoms decay at a rate going forward in time - like we are all used to.
scientist creates an algorithm for a process that litterally runs time backwards via those large rotating booths.
the plot is about how they broke the algorithm up into physical chunks, scattered about the world, thus, the tech is not LOST but still recoverable if they find a good use for it.
if the bad guy dies, the kill switch is thrown and the full blown time wipe happens to everything we know now.
our good guy learns, over the movie progression, he is central to protecting and restricting this technologies use.

Because of what this technology does, it ends up overlapping forward and backward time, intersecting and affecting each other sometimes..... as in pretty much the whole movie. :)

unusual, yet simple

reply

That sounds like a very stupid convoluted story and the black fella is not a good guy. Luckily there was the hot white chick, she kept me going for the first hour of the movie, then even she wasn't enough to keep it interesting and I fled the cinema.

reply

yeah, can be silly to anyone, but it was far from not making sense

Only movie EVER I walked out of

I thought you were going to say "Only movie EVER I walked out of......backwards"

I overall admire the film and what Nolan was trying to do (some fantastic ideas in the film), but I also found it difficult to feel as engaged as I did with past Nolan films. Dialogue is sometimes hard to hear, or when you hear it, hard to understand. They're good actors but a lot of lines read rather cold & mechanically, like they aren't real people. But they should feel like real people, if these are the few tasked with saving all of humanity.

reply

The black fella is NOT a good actor. The white chick was hot though.

reply

I read this too fast and then realized OP and others in here are numbskull racists. His race has nothing to do with the movie. So many things to analyze and that's what you latched on to? His skin color?

That's Denzel's son. Let him have a try at acting. I thought he did rather well considering he was an NFL player years ago (I believe didn't get to play much though).

reply

The soundtrack was horrible, the dialogue unintelligible, the non-actor (I don't care whose son he is, he can NOT act) being black plus all that hair in his face makes it even impossible to kind of lip-rear what the f he is saying. So all the reason to be utterly miscast is this movie that never should have been made. Nothing to do with racism. You must be a creepy-joe fan who sees racism in everything. I hate the actor, he happens to be black, that's not racist. I hate daniel 'no Bond' craig too.

reply

ah, NOW we get to the heart of YOUR issue: not understanding the dialog BECAUSE OF THE CRAPPY DIALOG MIX, which is totally understood. You missed most of the explanations, so nothing made sense. THIS is understandable. AND ruins this film every time.

No apologies from me.... Nolan made a piss poor call on the audio ruining it for many many people. I didn't understand the words first viewing. Next time, I sat closer in center, and angled the dialog into my ears with my arms over my head. DUMB I had to do that, but it helped a ton.

Yes, missing the explanations does infact ruin the understanding of this movie.
That said, since you don't like puzzles, I won't try to change your mind.

But, its not that the MOVIE makes no sense, its that the dialog doesn't make sense because we can't hear it clearly. The movie makes total sense (within the movie's universe and physics fiction)
