Remember when good movies won Best Picture?

I miss the days when movies like The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Unforgiven, Schindler’s List, Silence of the Lambs, Patton, Rocky, The Departed, Forrest Gump, Platoon, etc won Best Picture. You know actual great movies that will be remembered forever not overrated shit like this movie, Green Book, The Artist, Moonlight, Nomadland, etc that people have already forgotten about

reply

Mostly agreed--but which category are you putting this movie in?

reply

Overrated that nobody will remember in 2 years from now

reply

I guess time will tell, but I disagree. So much more unique and fun than the ones you listed

reply

2 years from now? I don't think most people ever knew about it to begin with.

reply

I myself never heard of it until i read it won best picture. Will i ever watch it? Fuck no.

reply

This movie is better than One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Silence of the Lambs, Patton, Rocky, or Platoon.

reply

LOL!

reply

Yes, that is true.
But not in this universe.

Bold statement.

reply

Hell, RRR was better than this, and it didn't even get nominated!

reply

Forrest Gump was a heaping pile of nostalgic tripe

reply

yes it was bad. Platoon was an awful film too.

reply

platoon.... it was a brilliant movie, holy shit how wrong can you be

reply

How wrong can I be? Sometimes I think a straight guy is gay and I make the wrong move

Thats about all, everything else I think is right .Thanks for stopping by

reply

your wrong about platoon , its not an awful film far from it , epic movie 9 out of 10

reply

Good for you, you're really easily impressed. You must be massively entertained by the sight of a bunch of gumballs in one of those candy vending machines.

reply

Brilliant, as I thought, you are stupid

reply

Says a so-called "grown man" who's scared one of his balls will fall off if he doesnt get the last word.

reply

Lol!

reply

Forrest Gump was amazing. A snapshot of American culture seen through the eyes of an idiot who manages to make you laugh and cry.

Joe Biden?

I DISAGREE...EEAAO WAS A SOLID FILM...MY DAUGHTER AND I REALLY LOVED IT...I WILL ALSO PULL MOONLIGHT OFF THT LIST...IT WAS ALSO EXCELLENT.

reply

People seemed to love this, at least the people who watched it. I would have voted for Top Gun Maverick, even though it was an action movie, and a sequel to campy cult classic. TGM had a good script, good acting, good cinematography, high stakes and great stunts. In short, they did everything well that movie makers try to do, including making great entertainment for a mass audience.

reply

I liked EEAAO the first time I watched it but on a rewatch it didn’t hold up, definitely not something I’d revisit.

I watched Top Gun: Maverick twice at the cinema and several times at home, it is excellent entertainment and deserves its place on the IMDB top 250 and should have won best picture over this.

reply

Maverick is a solid film. I would have voted for it as well. Everything Everywhere was interesting, but weirdly perverted in parts. After hearing the director admit he was a pervert, I REALLY wished Top Gun would have won.

Father time will tell.

Out of curiosity, I searched IMDb for the movies you have listed "overrated" on popularity rank for the year.

Green Book (18) is currently 6th most popular searched movie for that year.

The Artist (11) 82nd
Moonlight (16) 24th
Nomadland (20) 13th

The "good" movies you have listed are all in the popular top 10 for the year they were released, most were top 5.

One Flew Over (75) 2
Unforgiven (92) 10
Schindler's List (93) 4
Silence of the Lambs (91) 3
Rocky (76) 2
The Departed (06) 1
Forrest Gump (94) 3
Platoon (86) 10

Couldn’t agree more
