How the hell is this up for best film at the Oscars.

Great critic scores on rottontomatoes and metacritic and great audience reviews which is even rarer.

Maybe i’m missing something but this was all over the place.

The ending was emotional and there were a few laughs throughout but most of it was slapstick comedy.

reply

Agreed. I never got thru it.

reply

It's an excellent film with fantastic performances.

You are either a moron or a sheep. Your choice.

We all know this movie sucked, Michelle Yeoh sucked, Short Round sucked, the story just plain sucked. It was meaningless claptrap and weird for the sake of being weird. But this has China money behind it and they will buy all the awards they need to show the world they can create "art", too (Or create *anything* really besides big-ass walls).

IMDB doesn't even have it anywhere *near* top 250 and most of the user reviews are eviscerating it.

reply

I haven't even seen this movie but I gotta say, imdb isn't really a good site for telling if a movie is good. I mean for crying out loud, Driving Miss Daisy and Terms of Endearment get a rating in the lower 7s but The Dark Knight Rises which to me is completely inferior to the previous Nolan Batman films gets an 8.4/10. And you know why that is? Because imdb allows 13 year olds to vote and that's why Driving Miss Daisy and Terms of Endearment get the ratings they do and The Dark Knight Rises gets the rating it gets.

reply

I agree with your post and think Dark Knight is drivel and Driving Miss Daisy and Terms of Endearment are the clear better pictures despite the scores. I, however, think its less the problem of IMDBs rating system and more the problem of society. Masses of people just seem to love love love shit ass movies. More people than not love shoveling shit into their mouth while thinking its ice cream.
Which is why i never use any websites or reviews to decide what to watch. I sure as shit am not going to read what some paid off critic has to say and I’m not going to read what some 20 year old in Ohio has to say either. I’ll read the synopsis and then decide for myself whether or not it’s something i want to see.

reply

I agree.

reply

Hollywood has to do something to stay relevant with the Chinese market, that's how.

reply

I thought the same the first time I saw it. I've watched it twice more and it has really grown on me, like great movies do.

reply

Fair play then.

reply

I liked it. Highly original and centred on the characters, not CGI Marvel crap.

reply

Fair play, Marvel crap indeed.

reply

Haven't seen it yet but the trailer looks good.

reply

And it wins best film at the Oscars.
