I might have missed it - but electric power?

An interesting movie that just did NOT quite made it all the way for me. Some have mentioned the strange things regeding the pregnancy.

But what I dont understand is how they after a year have (a lot of)power in a apocalyptic world. Did I miss something?

Solar system. Panels on the roof, storage batteries in the basement. Once the batteries failed (after about five years) you'd only have electricity during the daylight hours unless you also had wind turbines. Then it's just a matter of when something big fails that you'd have to get up on the roof with a hammer and fix. There are some questionable aspects of the movie's premise but still having power in their house isn't one of them.

They never show it but solar panels is most likely explanation. And some rural farms do install them nowadays so its not unlikely. Esspentally decades of power with low maintenance needs. If apocalypse hits, get solar panels.
