Backstory?

Would've thought with an A-list cast like this and all the marketing we would get more backstory or hints to the origin of the creatures/aliens/monsters. The plot was basically B-movie without a backstory. Tension was good, acting was good, just wanted more info to where these things came from, how long they were there, etc.

3 out of 5 without that. 4.5 out of 5 with it.

not everything needs an explanation

they really did flaunt no explanation by starting on day xx, i thought there would be flashbacks when that happened

Exactly... The ecplanations are not needed... In fact their absence makes the creatures more mysterious and scary...

We got the backstory by following the newspaper clippings on the wall and the dad's whiteboards.

There was a meteor crash, so I took that as these being aliens, they are blind and their skin is bulletproof. So much is learned by the wall of his basement.
