Who was behind the casting of this movie?

I'm baffled. The first X-men movies had almost perfect casting, now they have managed to be almost perfectly miscast.. did they just try and find the celebrities of the day and cram them in roles instead of bothering to find the right looking person to fill the roles? I'm just baffled by how wrong the entire cast is.
